Are the servers always down this much?

Very true. But then again that's why you test things on a test server before you release them. Or test the game more thoroughly prior to release so as to not create issues later when you're trying to fix them. I know that won't happen though as delaying games hurts the company's bottom line and TBH to most people at top of the company them making money means a lot more than us being delivered a polished product.

Agreed.....It is very hard for company's to produce good quality games now and days just because of deadlines and restrictions (EA) Is a good example of this as they suck away everything and kill gaming company's like a fat man eating candy XD

I'm new the forums/game as I just purchased the game today. So far I played for about an hour and have waited through roughly 4 hours of the server being down (4 to 1 downtime to play time ...).

Has the game been this way since release or did I just purchase the game at a bad time? Any idea of how the character is saved at during the game? I played for about an hour straight then it kicked me so I fear that I may lose everything including my character as I didn't exit the game. I guess that's better than losing more but it's still an annoyance for something that should be purchased for fun.

Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It is not as bad as when they released the game. Yeah you may experience some daily down time, but its only for the better of the game. Sometimes this happens, which was pretty much the worse thing that has happened since its release. Usually down times last about 30-60min. In this case, we dont know when theyll be up, since their latest patch caused some major issues with some of the pursuits.

Also, WELCOME to DEFIANCE! Just be patient, it is what i recommend, dont start getting annoying, it is an MMO afterall, and being one of the firsts to hit consoles, well you could expect things like this to happen. But trust me when i say "patience is virtue" you will enjoy the game just give it time to settle into this environment.

This is the biggest form of ripoff. We pay our hard earned money to make our clans better and get fudged over by the gold grubbers in The Trion treasury department hoarding all the real scripts we keep forking over. My clan Valor Coalition is 150 strong and we have enough good guys to keep our boosts going for the next half year, but its a bummer cus I boosted myself and my group just this morning and am losing all that time right now. Trion stop robbing my pocket with your server updates!

Anyone who says they are up constantly must play very little. They go down at least once a day, normally at 5 in the morning. I play way to much I guess, but I notice a server drop normally twice a day and its awful. It does not always autosave your game when it drops you. I have lost items I just picked up twice when this has happened. The only time you can expect an autosave is if you fast travel or buy an item or lockbox.

You should read some people carefully. "Servers run 90% of the day" also auto saves works all the time "Unless they roll back the server" just in case you missed it.

The servers are down for at least 20-30 hours per week on average. If you are purchasing boosts, expect for a day or two to be wasted each week.

First, please note that I play on the Xbox 360 in North America. I'm not sure if the servers vary by platform.

No, they are not.

I've been spending most of my free time on Defiance since the day after the show first aired (I quickly became a big fan of both the series and the game). I've noticed the servers go down at about 4:30 AM EST every day for a brief server reset (I get up early. Yes, I'm one of those crazy "morning people" you hear about.).

Today they went down at about 12:00 PM EST for about two hours, but that is the first time I have experienced that length of down time. Shortly after they were taken down for emergency maintenance and have not yet come back up.

I have not experienced any bugs or glitches for an extended period of time that made the game unplayable. I was unable to complete a quest the other night due to an environment loading error but I submitted a detailed bug report, went to bed and it was fixed when I logged on the next day. Please note that this bug only triggered in that specific mission area and did not occur elsewhere.

The development team seems to be paying attention and fixes bugs and glitches within a reasonable time frame for a newly launched game and I am very pleased with their response time and ability to make progress. Do new bugs pop up often? Yes. Do they make the game unplayable? No. Do they last for an excessive amount of time? No (aside from an issue with lag that has been fixed).

Just be patient and wait it out. It'll be worth it.
