Thread: WTF Gamestop?

  1. #21
I bought this game soley on the fact that the dude at gamestop was totally geeking out about this game while i was there. He made it sound amazing and told me all about it and was informed. Most of the people at the gamestops in my area are well informed or atleast fake it well enough lol.

I agree, but hopefully you all see it as my opinion and nothing else. But yes, thank you, I do appreciate the concern and I will leave it at that to not speak of again.

Either way, I think games need to be played before you can give it a final judgement. Games like ZombiU for the WiiU got terrible review scores and I purchased it anyway despite the criticism and to this day its my one true reason for liking my WiiU so much. ZombiU is a fantastic game that got pulled through the mud even though its fantastic, just like the disputes with Defiance.

    Fantastic games.

Until last month, I was employed with GameStop for about 7 years. While not every employee is informed or with out bias (as are everybody else on earth) they do in fact attempt to hire as many informed and personable people as possible. However, as does any employee of any businesses, they have a professional agenda. From what the original poster said, it sounds like his was personal. To the person that said he was rejected for knowing too much. They probably just didn't want you there. I'm not being mean, but you have to possess the right personality, and they have to simply want you there. Each store is run by a small group of people whom probably have a good rapport with each other.

At most stores they are trained to only use the salesman appeal.....smile, suck up, give all favorable things you can think of........but they've never even played it.

Critical reviews of people who sell something are often times more honest than their positive reviews.
As I've seen most GameStop employees come in three flavors: high school kids, high school drop-outs, and older high school drop outs I don't know if I would care for their 'professional' opinion very much.

This has also been my experience with GameStop. One of the reasons why whenever I go in there, I get what I want and get out and ignore the sales pitches ( somewhat easier with growing up in a family where my father sells product for a living) . So, I am used to the usual tricks of the trade and how to counter.

Easiest counter is to know exactly what you are looking for and if they decide to give their own opinion, let them talk. Btw, the word "ok" is your friend here. It is a neutral word that neither means no or yes. Also, if your not in the mood to hear their opinion, go straight to the counter, request what you want if its new or stored be hind the counter, pay and get out. Its really as simple as that.

I never trust anyone anyways. I expect most GameStop, heck any sales employee from any company to have biased opinions.

I bought my copy on launch day from Gamestop.

None of the three employess bashed it by any means, however, none of them really knew what it was when I handed them my Pre-Order receipt.

They had to search for a copy for a couple of minutes.

"Introduce a little anarchy. Upset the established order, and everything becomes chaos. I’m an agent of chaos. Oh and you know the thing about chaos, it’s fair."

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions of any businesses but it sounds like the areas y'all go to are a little rough. I like finding out all the stuff on the upcoming titles to share with the people that come to see me, most are like family these days. As much of a business as it is, it's more about informing than anything else.

Just a quick note, I have a college degree so please don't think that all retailers are like that.
