In truth - we WANT them to fix the problems and that means software rollouts.

But companies that know what they are doing configure machines to do rolling upgrades. Usually in clusters then they stop and make sure the new software works before committing the new software to all the machines. The "Clustering" and "Rolling Restarts" are common, best practices in Websites. (I have written software to do this for my company). The rules may not work for a MMO.

The other issue: network problems. The message saying "Servers not available" probably come up if there are network, DNS or routing issues. Good network guys are worth their weight in gold because this is the 'secret sauce' that keeps the internet working.
