Thread: Flop? or Not?

  1. #91
Honestly, I think its rather silly to make predictions at this point. Stability wise its rather average. yeah yeah people cry and claim oh this game was better, rarely the case since server managment isn't something you can really get into untill there is an active user base. Even estabilished games moved to new markets tend to have rough starts since its difficult to predict traffic rates and player behaviours.

Player reviews and forum rants arn't much to judge by either, the game is more casual in nature. though hopefully they will add content for the more focused players over time. The player base initialy attracted though is going to be burst gamers and and all the kids hoping to stroke the old e-pene. They'll burn through the content in two three days of hardcore gaming then lose intrest, heh or realize they cant just invest time to raise levels or get epic gear that will allow them to dominate in pvp and thus leave them with little stroke oppurtunity. I'd note those initial swells of server load make server management a pain in the early days extending the open beta period those same burst players will complain about.

When the burst players burn out , heh and the strokers wander to a cash shop game, thats when Trions behaviour and the player response on the forums will allow for any sort of prediction.

I dont want to misunderstand what your saying, but are you saying Trion is waiting for the strokers and burst players lose interest in the game so they can cater to the casuals?????
Careful, you might loose this fight, Anne Frankly why does everybody have to bring up the Nazis?

That's the thing-- they have the right philosophy, but they implemented it so poorly players can't see it. So they ask for other genres to get copy/pasted over.

I'm sorry, having played MMOs (exclusively for my video gaming) for 14 years, having been there for a slew of launches, and having watched a vast majority of MMOs released in the past 5 years launch badly, not be on the ball to fix it, and inevitably end-up with an overhauled business model and dumped into the F2P market . . .

That has got to be the absolute most idiotic thing I have read on this game's forum to date.

Queues are still working and theres people at Arkfall, that what matters for me. I again think the MMO world outside of WoW is never been better. Question is what happens when Titan and Elder Scroll Online comes.

More that that is what the game is catered to as is. Small weekly expansions that the casual player can consume in their free time. The two groups I somewhat jokingly refrence are the ones that flood the forums with negativity, expectations and reality rarely leave a happy soul when they clash.

@ Rasczak (And anyone else who keeps bringing up how all other MMO's bar WoW have moved to F2P!)
You're talking about P2P moving to F2P, not B2P. There's a difference. Defiance has nothing to gain by moving to F2P so it'd never do that. It's using a traditional videogame model where we pay for the disc then pay for DLC content down the line. The reason P2P moves to F2P is because they don't have enough subscribers to sustain their costs and aren't making money, so they move to F2P and open cash shops/pay to win methods/paid content packs to recoup their losses.

What he said wasn't idiotic in the slightest. And no, he was never saying they're going to wait for the burst gamers to leave so TRION can cater to casuals. He was saying once the burst gamers and e-peeners leave Defiance we'll have a better idea of if it'll flop or not.

Casual gaming isnt enough to sustain the product in today world of gaming.

Now that i somewhat understand, i believe your overall meaning may be a bit flawed do to the console fanbase seriously needing a better mmo than whats on the market at the moment.

Trion towed the low road with Defiance, instead of taking the high road for the hardcore, while keeping the difficulty somewhat stable for the casual. Casual players dont generate the income, sure they buy the meaningless fluff item, but Trion could have balanced the game for all instead of what they currently have.

Hardcores like to push, and push, and as long as theres something to push, that side of the equation is satified, and it no how deminishes the experience for the casual players.

So casual players dont buy boost that are for 24 hours, knowing that the boost will expire long before they actually spend 24 hours in the game.

So casual players dont want to see episodic missions that will affect the show as they play.

So casual players dont want to see new content that will expand the world, bringing new adventure and stories.

So casual players dont want to feel true progression in their ego rating through weapons and stats increase that have significant difference than when they started playing..

So what do casual players really want?

I never suggested what he said was idiotic at all, but i did want to be sure what he meant before i gave a thought out comment

Incidentally, Defiance has everything to gain by moving to F2P if the TV series ends up being a smash hit. As nothing more than a promotional tie-in to the TV series.

I do hope it never comes to that.
