I'm at 14XX EGO and I'm only logging in to do contracts and some quick vendor runs every day. Maybe tag a few arkfalls and chat a bit with the 3 clan members that are online (out of 40-50). Getting echelon rep to 600 will take months anyway, since half the dailies are impossible to finish. I'm looking forwards to how this game will develop, but I'm not holding my breath.

Makes you wonder "just why did gameinformer post wrong info in their review?"

Not gonna explain that one further.
Keep in mind, through another source they also claimed 6 million player hours logged. Well, just going with only the 460,000 copies, that's roughly 13 hours per player in the first 3 weeks or so. Not a lot of per-player log in time. Of course, that needs to be adjusted to account for those who did leave versus those who bought into it afterward. But even if they really did have 1 million accounts playing, that would average 6-played hours per player.

Very nice spin, though, either way.

to the best of my knowledge, GameInformer hasn't released a "review" as of yet....this was merely pointing out what has been going on in game...not a review, also not a sales figure.

The more i see it, the more i think that everything they showed us in all those videos, isn't working.
They couldn't implement any of this stuff in game, as it was bugged as hell, but still, they decided, to release the game anyway, as the TV show was about to start.
At this point those videos rank right up their with the latest Aliens game for "Advertising things that don't appear anywhere in the actual game when you buy it."

VG Charts is pretty unreliable with their numbers, they also have no way of tracking digital sales, which I believe this game can be had online for all 3 platforms? Or just the PC? I could have sworn I saw an advert for it when I fired up my PS3.

    Semantics.
A news report noting a sales press release that pretty much sounds maybe false information and tries in part to make a few minor review like statements added in.

I still view it as a bought out article about a press release.

And that's the ONLY plausible reason you can come up with that some of the stuff you saw in the vids isn't in game yet?

You don't think that it's at least possible that some of it is gated with what is yet to be revealed on the TV show?

You don't think it's possible that some of that content you saw is in the DLCs that haven't been deployed yet?

So, either Trion is counting forum accounts (as Cryptic did with STO when they once made the same claim, in a very similarly worded press release), or they miraculously sold a hell of a lot of copies in the final 10 days of the month, completely doing a massive turn around on the drop off in sales per week from the first 3 weeks of the month, despite the lackluster reviews and press the game is getting at most places.

While the viewing numbers for the Defiance show also show a drop-off in numbers (though not a huge one, which I very glad of, as I really like the show).
VGChartz doesn't count Digital Downloads (such as the PC players get direct from Trion or Steam). Nor does it count ANY on-line orders such as those placed thru Amazon. VGChartz's whole mission is to track retail store sales.

Rain's a good arbitrary example. We know it existed at one point, but does not currently exist.

I don't remember a character in the TV series mentioning it "doesn't rain anymore" and don't really see room for a "rainmaker" story arc. Furthermore, a connection to the TV series based on rain seems awfully lame. So really, why cut it?

They probably developed the PC client first, as that's what Trion had left over from Rift. They had all of these neat "enhancing" features, then had to remove bits and parts one at a time to cram them onto a disc/get them to work on the consoles in realtime at decent framerates.

That's not to say this is the only explanation, but it's a very solid explanation: pre-alpha client could very well have had additional functionality before Trion knew exactly what they could pull off on the consoles. As the console clients didn't likely exist at the same level of completion, they likely used the PC to create the earlier marketing videos-- not that they wouldn't anyway, due to the superior graphics capability of PC makes it ideal for marketing videos.

Incidentally, transparency on vehicles seems to have been cut too-- we know the interiors of the Dodge/Buggy exist, but the windows have been "boarded over" or silvered so we can't see inside without clipping. Another relic of a higher-spec client. We know for a fact Nolan does have a buggy with transparent windows, and a plot-based unlock of glass seems silly.

Harmony Preacher, or what became Harmony Preacher, once had a longer coat. Most likely it was shortened to waist-level because the client animated it poorly, or the additional calculations necessary to deform that particular mesh (cloth simulation makes computers complain) at arkfall scale annoyed the 360/PS3. Longer coats are in the TV series, and unlocking a coat as a big event seems silly too-- so no reason to hold that back.

So no, I don't think there's anything malicious behind them cutting some of the content they created to make the game work on the consoles. I am disappointed they couldn't keep the PC version up to their original vision as a separate "director's cut" branch, though, and I am frustrated the consoles might have hamstrung the entire project.

If you've ever played FFXI, you'll be familar with lolps2limitations. We're seeing that now in Defiance with PS3/360.
