Hey feel free to quote me because we all love quoters dont we
Funny thing is, the games you mentioned (Battlefield 3, Call of Duty and Mass Effect 3) are all generally "fun" to a majority of people whom play them still. They (the games you mentioned) also provided exactly what they needed to keep people playing and addicted to them at launch while Defiance however not so much.
Yes, many of the online games now-a-days are all grinds in their own way. The trick here however is to deceive the player to "The Grind" by making it not feel as though you are grinding when playing it, by generally making the game fun with different things to do and or engaging their interests within the game itself.
Once you hit that "Grind" feeling it only goes down hill from there and generally your interest in the game will fall off into nothingness, you will stop caring and stop playing. This leads to the Dev losing whatever money they could have milked off you by keeping your interest to keep playing.
The off-topic section is sometimes quite amusing!
Can't believe how popular this thread is! I'm only still playing defiance because I have no other games worth playing. If I did, this game would be in the box collecting dust till some dlc came out. I've achieved pretty much everything I want to do, now just the grind pursuits. 5000 sniper kills, lvl 10 semi-auto... I hate sniping, I'm just plain awful at it.
Nothing else to do... so just plod on!
