Actually Netherwinter is a very well made and polished game, well it should be after 5 years in development but meh.

One thing that is bad though is the current price of in game currencies they are pretty high at the moment but will settle after a month. Combat is GREAT really good fun especially in a party. Some aspects are pretty hardcore such no easy way to respect your class which keeps in line of the D&D rule set.

Sure there are some bugs that really need to be fixed but as a whole package for now it is a really good game if you are into the whole fantasy rpg scene. Also it doesn't really hand things to you on a plate like other games which is awesome.

Anyway I am 3510 Ego have everything done except Freight Yard and associated pursuits and really only log in to finish contracts lately. I should have been 4.6k Ego today but yea other games pulling me away. Saying that I will pretty much stick around for all the planned DLC, I like Defiance but I also like other games and I play pretty dam hardcore I just try not to burn myself out all at once.

Playing 18 hours a day, every day for a month isn't hardcore.. it's insane. No game company can keep providing content for somebody who basically spends every waking second of every day in their game. No game company should or will even try to. If that is the way you play games, have fun moving from game to game because nothing will ever satisfy you.

That is not the market that can be catered to, and it's one so tiny that no game could survive on having a player based composed of people like that.

I absolutely agree with this. These players can never be satisfied; at best they can be given busywork that holds them over from patch to patch.

However, Defiance's issue is its content problems are not limited exclusively to the bleeding edge. We're seeing more and more people (though some still are happy) running out of everything to do except the busywork of grinding 2500 ego solely through leveling on the same damn things they were doing at ego rating 100.

This is when we see people (like the poster earlier in the thread) claiming "casuals" are jumping ship too. They might not be as casual as someone who plays an hour a week, but they're hardly someone playing 18 hours a day.

And thanks to the great Trion choice of making Defiance B2P with no gear grind, they can stop playing for days/weeks until new content will be released and then come back in game ready to see and complete the new content, without having to farms for hours/days/weeks for new new tier of equipment only to see the new content.

Being able to quit while you wait for the game to be finished is never a selling point for any MMO, B2P, F2P, or otherwise. Let alone an MMO from Trion, known previously for their rock-solid launch of Rift and the wide variety of content at launch and astonishing pace of development of new content.

Defiance is hurting Trion's reputation for in-the-box variety and pace of development right now.

People are too much accustomed to the "I need to login x hours everyday to farm for the equip" mindset.
Some B2P MMOs (Defiance being one of them) are not born with this forced need.
    Thanks Trion!

Ya...I have gotten into some games pretty hard at times...but 18 hours a day...unless your on a week break or somthing....you need help man, like no joke

Anything over 10 a day is a bit concerning...

That casual poster would be me. I played /25 hours in roughly 2-3 weeks or so, averaging only maybe 90 minutes a night from about midnight to 1:30am before bed. I finished all side quests and the Main Story at around EGO 611 (I also did many Arkfalls for keys for that joke of a Lockbox system). Once I defeated Nim and looked around, I saw more road side emergencies that now give no reward to talk about for the participation, timed vehicle obstacle courses (purely solo), and kill-waves-of-enemies gun challenges (solo) that didn't interest me in the slightest. Then there is the (PC side) broken, hackfest PvP, and the completely unchallenging Co-Ops that you can literally nod off at the keyboard and complete.

It's definitely a console game, no doubt about it. The only other "MMO" where the developers thought challenges and races were core content was DCUO--- another console MMO designed as an obvious PC port.

I don't need gear progression. Trust me, I am the last MMO player to be drawn to that type of game play (I enjoy Rift in spite of that). I played City of Heroes for almost all of its 8 years, and loved every moment of it. But to have the quests absolutely dry up after just a little over 2 weeks of casual play, and the Co-ops be so utterly boring? It's absolutely pathetic.

I also hear about player skill being the factor in this game. I call BS. Defiance is my first shooter. I have never played a Shooter game before this. And even the Scrappers and Dark Matter were easy after the first 10 minutes of figuring them out. Even player skill isn't a driving force in this game, or those currently top-end enemy factions (not to mention Nim) should have given someone like me much more trouble.

And this. Rushing back to pay $10 for a DLC that will be even less content than the $60 game launched with isn't high on my list of things to look out for. Not to say I will never purchase the game again, but it's going to be once it is $20 to $30 soon (Micro Center around here is expecting it to drop to the $20 price range they sell Rift for in a couple of weeks). No way it would be a $60, or even a $40, purchase again.

While I may take a break from a decent MMO and will always return (did it with WoW back in the day, Rift, and even with CoH on occassion), when a game is poor by my standards, I rarely return. I've yet to go back to: Champions Online, Aion, Warhammer Online, Age of Conan, or Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Defiance is Trion, so it has a chance of me coming back. But that chance gets more slim by the week that this current Dev team is still in charge of it.

im sorry to say it but if you played for 18 hours a day from launch to now you easily got your moneys worth, just put the game down for now and come back when new content is added, for me tho since i only play 3-4 hours every other day and if the community is strong there is content here to last me at least another month. and when they fix the pursuits then we wll have even more to do..
