I've been MMO'ing for 17 years, and gaming long before that.
I switched over to mostly female toons about 10 years ago.
Before you get my reasons why, it is important to stress this: I am NOT roleplaying. I don't have any interest in wearing women's clothing in real life, I'm not a perv...etc etc. Normal, burger-loving, happily married hetrosexual male.
So...why?
1. As a hetrosexual male, I prefer the female form. If I'm going to look at someone all day in a game, I'd rather it be a female.
2. Comic book artists and game designers put far more love into modelling and animations for female toons. Not surprisingly, most of them are hetrosexual males as well. So the graphics often look better.
3. Smaller PvP profile. Yep, I said it. I'm 3% harder to shoot than a male toon. And yes, I just made that number up.
4. I make my toon look as close to my non-gamer wife as I can. Often she helps me make the toon. It started as an effort to get her to play games. But she doesn't. She'll always show up for character creation though. Ah vanity.
5. As I said, I don't "role play". But I do often dream up a story around my characters. Its fun to immerse, even if I don't want to socialize about it. To me, a woman in a violent storyline has a lot more richness and potential for my imagination...just as most women in uniform have a very interesting reason for being there. (For the curious, I imagine my toon is looking for her father...who is probably an EMC Mutant).
6. My toon is easier to identify when she calls out vocally in a group environment with a bunch of male toons. This means I often get heals faster, etc.
7. What's better than rocking some cocky misogynist jerk's universe in pvp as a GIRL TOON? (No, I don't teabag. That wouldn't be ladylike, now would it?)
