I've been MMO'ing for 17 years, and gaming long before that.

I switched over to mostly female toons about 10 years ago.

Before you get my reasons why, it is important to stress this: I am NOT roleplaying. I don't have any interest in wearing women's clothing in real life, I'm not a perv...etc etc. Normal, burger-loving, happily married hetrosexual male.

    So...why?

    1. As a hetrosexual male, I prefer the female form. If I'm going to look at someone all day in a game, I'd rather it be a female.
    2. Comic book artists and game designers put far more love into modelling and animations for female toons. Not surprisingly, most of them are hetrosexual males as well. So the graphics often look better.
    3. Smaller PvP profile. Yep, I said it. I'm 3% harder to shoot than a male toon. And yes, I just made that number up.
    4. I make my toon look as close to my non-gamer wife as I can. Often she helps me make the toon. It started as an effort to get her to play games. But she doesn't. She'll always show up for character creation though. Ah vanity.
    5. As I said, I don't "role play". But I do often dream up a story around my characters. Its fun to immerse, even if I don't want to socialize about it. To me, a woman in a violent storyline has a lot more richness and potential for my imagination...just as most women in uniform have a very interesting reason for being there. (For the curious, I imagine my toon is looking for her father...who is probably an EMC Mutant).
    6. My toon is easier to identify when she calls out vocally in a group environment with a bunch of male toons. This means I often get heals faster, etc.
    7. What's better than rocking some cocky misogynist jerk's universe in pvp as a GIRL TOON? (No, I don't teabag. That wouldn't be ladylike, now would it?)

    * sigh *

Ok asking people why is the same as asking why people play male characters, its because they want too.

Games are not reality reality being a game will not mix and here is why. . . .

Everyone wants balance witch is a dream and fantasy of fairness well reality is not balanced, its very unfair and the odds can be stacked against you and put you in a FML situation fast.

This is a online game, I personaly make a character that is a imagenary character I do not want to make myself in a game I would not care how hot or ugly I am lol no I play games to play games not imagine myself doing this stuff a lot of things is better done in games than real life cause real life has no reset buttons to take away the pain of others and damage caused.

This is not e harmony lol there are sites for dating on the internet and not saying " do not do this " because I mean you will do what you want to do and lol I will not tell you how to play but at least ask the person if they are male of female first quite a bit of people like me will tell you " hey I am a guy. "

While I might say I will assume the OP is just asking this as a his/her own curiousity kinda question this question is ussaly met with bad responses due to the negitve nature this ussaly ends up being for the quetsion asked in games. It's a personal preferance of the player and in no way indicated they want to really be a woman or a woman really wants to be a man, making fun of people for them playing how and what they want to play is very childish and is really not nessesary.

Thank you if you read though my gibberish ranting heh and hope everyone keeps having fun.

Check my avatar here, and after that check my twitter @TheDutchTexan.

I did it in Mass Effect, I do it in Defiance. But with a twist. Defiance has a tv series, and after the contest #DefianceCrossover I could not help myself. Cornel Vee is my alter-ego in the game AND my alter ego if I lived in the show. It's a creative outlet, and even at 31 with a daughter and a son on the way I still dream.

One could also ask why do guys play as guys? Guys staring at the arse of their male character all day say something about their hidden tendencies? :P

It doesnt matter what gender that girl you see in game really is. You aren't going to meet them.

Its a game, but not The Crying Game.

I tend to feel the only ones that have a problem with this is men who think talking to some pixels onscreen counts as dating.
