how the hell do get orange weapons

You have to pour real money into lock boxes...

I haven't spent a dime on this game beyond the initial purchase and I have plenty of Ojs. I try to get at least one tier 4 lockbox every gaming session. I always anticipate it being garbage and seem to get lucky.

Are you using item farming perks to increase your item yield, and by association salvage?

Note of interest: As of v1.020, Neither Acid or I have gotten a single Oj. So they may have done something to the drop rate again. Best thing I have gotten in the past few days was a Blue FRC SAW with syphon. Not even any good purples.

No I hadn't considered using these, I will look into this today. Thanks for the info, do they make much difference?

Yeah, Just Reward, under Cloak. Give you 3% extra drop rate for Critical kills.
Pinata, right of Overcharge. Gives you 3% extra drop rate for Explosive kills.

Critical-Explosive kills ARE possible (not sure how to do it consistently yet, maybe the max dmg radius reaches the crit box?.)
You will get more items and have much more salvage for boxes. Just go in expecting the get a box of crap, you didn't spend any real money on it so there isn't to much of a real loss.

Plus you can lvl up your explosive weapons while you farm. Courier for Sawed-offs.
I'm not sure if they fixed Clustershots, it wasn't registering as an explosive kill before v1.020. If they did you have that for combat shotgun.

Finally at ego 2140 I got an orange VOT Bolter, after about 280 hours of game play lol.

I got my 4th Legendary today without even really trying. Tier 4 at Iron Demon Ranch. I know what people say about value for money and how you can do three tier 3's for the price of one 4, or whatever, all I know is that 3 of mine came from a Tier 4.
