Oh man if Aliens got a good review then reviews themselves are completely compromised. I think the Gametrailers review was fair (6.8 or 6.9), but it's hard to score a game which admittedly is getting better, albeit slowly. If a reviewer plays it during an especially bad period, with server crashes and bugs, then they can't really be blamed for scoring low. Back to Gametrailers, WoW did get a 9/10 when it was released (I find WoW to be one of the most monotonous and time consuming games that exists), but I think the playing field has gotten a lot more difficult since then. Also Defiance has proven that a console MMO is possible... And it's goddamned free once you pay for the game.

There's plenty of shooters out there that play much better than Defiance. The only thing it has going for it is that it's an mmo. The only problem is that the mmo part is the part that's most broken. And why can't you review Defiance? Because its an mmo? I've been playing at the most leisurely pace imaginable and even I've finished all the content included out of the box. I mean what, you don't think reviewers should be missing out on all the awesome episode content that's come out since launch? If this game had regular content updates, not resknned emergencies disguised as "new" pursuits, then not reviewing it might make sense but as it stands I'm pretty sure a competent reviewer could make a pretty accurate judgement about Defiance as is.
If i was a Defiance fan,its very hard to come to grips with the simple fact that Trion promised alot before release, everyone took believed it, hell even i believed it, but im not pissed that they didnt deliver, im pissed because i spent my money on a game that i traded in the next day. 1st time i ever done that!, but i knew something was fishy having the beta then release 1wk later...

And yet, you're still here to complain about it. How fortunate for us... Seriously, move on.

I'd also like to point out... again, that Trion did not make promises then fail to deliver. There were a lot of assumptions that people made (specifically about how the game and show tie together), then got grumpy because they weren't true, but people blaming Trion for their own misconceptions is getting really old and juvenile.

Also, I read the RPS review. Yes, the writer seems frightfully immature, and he was quite snarky throughout the review. He did, however, say that it was a decent game that he wouldn't mind playing more of. Not a great review, but not terrible.

Heres a quote from the Aliens fiasco:

""We were told many times through demo production, 'Don't worry about performance, just make it awesome,'" said one source. "There was a reason [the demos] were never playable."

The game later had to be optimised for consumer PCs. "We were constantly cutting back more and more in terms of texture, shader and particle fidelity, in order to fit into the jacked memory restraints," said another source.

When Gearbox finally took the reins back on Aliens: Colonial Marines last summer it had to change everything, as according to two sources, what TimeGate delivered wasn't very good and couldn't run on PS3. Uh oh!"

I dont agree with comparing the 2 game (Aliens and Defiance), but clearly you see the similarity right?

How about the Flagship fiasco, again, isnt Defiance following the same road?

I would like to point out that in a lot of grade school districts today, a D is better than failing.

Yeah. Boggles the mind. Kids don't even have to try to pass school anymore. I'm wondering if MMO developers had the same grading system in college.

Sadly RPS wasn't a very competent reviewer. This isn't just an MMO, it isn't just a third person shooter. It needs to be judged on its own scale, not put up against gears of war and World of Wardcraft (how bad *** would that be though? :3)
Their have been maybe three other games that have broken this ground and i'm including the third for fareness's sake. Planetside, Planetside 2 and Warframe. This is semi-new ground, treat it as such.
