Is it just me, or are we wussies

So I am playing this game, and it seems that our character is a bit of a pansy. I mean I am always taking orders from people, being the grunt, never standing up for myself. They introduce new characters in the storyline, and these characters all of a sudden are my boss, and I am there bit**.

Not to mention aren't I supposed to be Von bachs bodyguard? Yet when Von Bach gets a choke hold from one of the characters and I am just standing there in a daze. The hell? This dude even gets punched, and I am standing there watching like I am scared to the point I can't move.

    Way to be a bodyguard.

I mean dam, am I ever going to feel like I am in charge of something in this game? At the very least give me some kind of sequence where I punch one of these story npcs in the face or something.

I was always under the assumption that we are just Ark Hunters, employed by Von Bach, not his body-guards.

Actually he's been referred to twice so far as his bodyguard.

You're looking at it the wrong way. We aren't bodyguards, we're Arkhunters who moonlight as mercenaries (Can't always be scavenging an arkfall after all). We get paid, and its in our best interests to see that those who pay us well stay in a position to keep paying us well.

When it comes to an employer getting roughed up, so long as it isn't fatal and/or detrimental to my steady stream of income, well if I'm not getting paid to do something about it then it isn't my problem now is it?

On the other hand, sure we could kill them and take their money, but then we'd be stuck in the middle of nowhere with no friends... and lots of people that would like to take our newly acquired wealth.

Yes, I adamantly disagree with the removal of key codes from all emergencies.

I reserve the right to take personal offense at anyone who disagrees with me, because I find blatant stupidity offensive.

We're not bodyguards. We're just mercs hired by Von Bach to hunt down Arktech. Oh and he also experimented on us and gave us the EGO.

But yeah I kinda agree. Not about the wuss part, just about the getting bossed around part. We don't even speak for the entire game. I guess our characters are just the strong and silent types that just like to kill stuff. We won't complain about being told what to do as long as we're being told to kill

    If it were possible...

Start the game, when Von Bach is whining, shoot him. Work for Noah Grant instead as he seems the only sane at start. Pick up Von Bach's core and have easier time not losing it every 2 seconds.

Or so if this was FONV or similiar. :P

Open world games like Fallout gives you a choice. Help the NCR? Get in the bad with caesar's legions. Help CL? Get half the known world angry at you. (No one say it is a fair choice). I can role play my character as bad/harden as I want it, purposely failing missions with great rewards because the quest giver starts talking shatako to me and I don't need someone getting uppity on me.

However I think it is a bit unavoidable in an MMO that players don't really get much of a chance to choose their sides/options/methods. It is a on-the-rails approach to story telling that MMORPGs have not been able to get past.
