You know what's going to happen with this 'challenge' stuff? The vast majority of people at an arkfall will be somewhere outside the circle, waiting for the last moment to jump into the fray and collect the loot while doing as little of the real work as possible.
At least now, there's stuff to be done with little real effort. I do a form of crowd control. Until the very end, I only attack the flying Hellion boss when there's nothing else to shoot at, while concentrating on all the other hellbugs so they are less of a problem later when it's actually possible to kill the Hellion. It's way too tightly programmed: beat on the main body until the Hellion comes out, lower its health by 1/4, fight a big bug, another 1/4, two more big bugs, last half and done.
A real challenge would involve more than just a few extra enemies, and if a large majority of the players stop coming to an arkfall if their pain exceeds the value of the reward, then the programming will have to cut back the challenge or only a few supreme game phenoms will be willing to do them. You get crowds now since everybody gets stuff and some get extra stuff like XP and keycodes that aren't amazing things like orange weapons would be. Add at least one random bug per Major Arkfall final fight that, if you get the kill shot, you get an orange item. Not too easy to kill, not too tough. Maybe one that you have to melee to death, to eliminate the massive amount of firepower that just about anybody who plays much can wield. Stuff like that would maybe make for a challenge and not a pain...
