    Suggestion for User Generated Content

I've been doing some brainstorming recently on how we could combat the absolute lack of end-game content or any actual PVE progression.

I was playing the new Perfect World/ Cryptic MMORPG Neverwinter this past week, and while I don't really recommend it to any self-respecting MMO player, I will say that they had one major breakthrough that I honestly believe would be absolutely invaluable to Defiance. There was a particular aspect of the game called "The Foundry". What The Foundry allowed players to do was essentially create their own quest lines, events, and instanced dungeons that gave unique, player driven, perspectives and expansions on the current lore progression of the game.

To me, that seems like pure genius for an MMORPG.

Now, I realize that Defiance isn't "technically" an RPG, however there are some RPG elements that could benefit from player created mission arcs.

Basically, the way it would work would be simple enough. Once you've beaten the story missions and achieved a certain EGO rating, you would unlock access to a "FORGE" or whatever silly name the developers wanted to affix to the creation option. Using this "Forge", you could create your own quest arcs, co-op missions, PVP maps, or even larger 10 or 25 man raids (World of Warcraft style) for those die hard PVE players of any EGO level. Because this game has so much RNG and horizontal weapon progression, the loot rewards would only be set to rarity with small chances for legendaries on the most difficult fights.

Now of course this has the potential to be abused, however, user generated content should be policed by the users, and only moderated in the most extreme cases. The system I saw had a community ratings system in place that allowed players who finished the content to actually assign a 1-5 star rating and leave a comment that could be viewed by other potential quest patrons, as well as leave "tips" of in-game currency or paid currency.

Now, with this idea in mind, imagine how much amazing content we could potentially have added to the game that would keep people busy for a very long time, and give alternatives of earning currency to those who may not be able to afford the steep prices of the Bit store themselves. Imagine being able to reward someone for their hard work of developing an outstanding mission experience, or being rewarded yourself for that very same thing. I believe that this could really bring our community together and spark some very creative additions to Defiance.

If you agree with this sentiment or even parts of it, please show your support on this thread. Perhaps with enough community support and interest, we may get something like this added in the future to provide us with many more hours of enjoyment in Defiance.
I like my loot how I like my baby steaks...rare...

The shiny moonbeams ate all my corncobs. They sliced my mother's pearly-pearls and sent the Rakk to graze on her piano-driven corpse! MY PARENTS JIGGLED AND SQUIGGLED AND I DIDN'T KILL THEM I PROMISE! They called me INSANE! No, I am not insane! I am throat-scratch! I am the pants! I... am... RAKKMAN!

There will trainer maps that you can easily make, like a room full of infinite spawning melee mutants that you can train mass launchers on. Or better still, a room full of trapped hulkers that you can farm weapon skill and items on. That itself will makes the forge problematic in terms of balancing risk vs rewards.

Unfortunately, petitions are against the forums code of conduct... expect a closed thread.

City of Heroes did that with the Mission Architect system, and Star Trek Online has long since had the Foundry.

By Neverwinter, it's hardly a major breakthrough.

You know what? You're right. What I was thinking? I'm such an idiot. God forbid anyone imply that TRION is terrible at creating enjoyable or unique story missions, adding actual end-game content, or should hand the reins over to the community for game longevity.

You know, some of you people should really brush up on the the English language and develop some reading skills. I CLEARLY said:

"of course this has the potential to be abused, however, user generated content should be policed by the users, and only moderated in the most extreme cases"

I shouldn't have to explain that this would include exploitation and "grinding" maps that allow people to unfairly gain advancements.

    To hell with it.

The thread was renamed, so no TOS infringement I suppose. Regardless, seems like this will be overlooked like any other decent idea the community has.

    I'm done here.

Decidedly non-trivial but I like the idea. It's worked well for a lot of other games. City of Heroes did it very well, for instance.
