It's not about loot and equipment. It's about skills -- yours as a player, and the ones you choose to unlock and make your loadouts with. EGO advancement lets you unlock more perks, max them, and gives you more perk spots to put them in. The choices you make there, in combination with your preferred types of weapons and personal gameplay style, is what it's all about.

There are plenty of MMOs that reward grinding with uber gear that lets you then cruise through stuff in auto-attack easy mode, but this isn't one of them.

Best not to encourage people to leave. Not to mention people aren't going to leave just because you tell them to.
Exactly. Ha. My thoughts exactly. I keep wanting to play this, i go in, maybe do an arkfall or two if i can stomach it, then log out. Hell id probably stay in there longer if there was something social.

Actually this is starting to remind me of warhammer online back when it betaed/launched. Just felt like it had no soul and was empty. Though that was for a different reason xD

Unfortunately that isn't the most exciting way to encourage players to keep playing, i myself haven't played in about a week now and decided to pop back onto the forums to see how things are going. Like it or not without something to work towards, eg That all powerful piece of loot then it gets stale real fast.
Ego rating to me just seems like a glorified achievement system, i am only just over 1000 ego and doing pursuits just to have a number change beside my toons name with no real change happening just seems like a complete waste of time.
The weapon stats are just completely pointless at the moment and the randomness involved in getting mods to work with the crappy synergies is even worse.

Well , your post made me think a little and I just checked my character.
The 24 second grenade you are so proud of.... I've got two 24 second grenades found at level 245 and 260 (one flashbang and one bio).

Don't you believe that with 700 more level , you should have found better ?

I'm not focusing on achievements (because pursuits ARE pointless achievements) to get the same stuff I got 40 hours playtime earlier.

People compare EGO score to the character level in a MMOrpg , it's not , EGO is a gamerscore , nothing else.

Yep, i totally agree. I have stopped playing now but stopped by to see what was going on with the community!

As per my previous post, this is exactly my thoughts!

as a guy who spends most of his gaming life in shooters, this is the dumbest excuse I've seen. So what's the point of having weapons, shields, or even the perks if its all about skill. What the point of even having EGO Rating... i can play a ton of better shooters if i didnt expect any MMO quality in this game... Why do you think before the release people were coming to the forums trying to compare it to Tabula Rasa? People want a Shooter MMO... and Defiance has not delivered this yet.

This game doesnt take skill. This whole game is on easy mode. Kill a guy, hide to let shields reload, rinse and repeat.

And ego really doesnt do much, even when you unlock other perks most of them are garbage anyway.

Personally, I am greatly enjoying the low power curve of Defiance. It's a relief after playing so many MMOs that feel the need to raise numbers EXPONENTIALLY throughout leveling. I am still happy when I find a gear upgrade, but I'm not by any means gimped if I don't find anything good for a while.

    Shooter first, MMO second.

You can't get REAL progression like that in a shooter or it will lead to a very unbalanced play experience.

Borderlands is a prime example. Many people don't want to deal with the main story and just beg people to power level them up to cap so they can get their super OP God killer guns. More often than not though people will just straight out mod their character to level cap with every single one of their god killer guns.

Its a very flat progression but there is some.
