In Defiance you level up your skill yourself, this is not a kid game where you just have to play hours to be uberoverpoweroneshotnoobs... in this game if you're bad at EGO 20 and still bad at EGO 2000, the problem is you, not the game!!

No the problem is people like you who want a MMO that always online to be treated like a lobby shooter game so you can just jump on for your 15 minutes, well guess what, it cost company's money to keep servers on and if the players aren't sticking around spending money then there's not going to be a server for very long.

like it or not we need true progression

Who cares of ppl that don't understand a game because it is not like their favourite one...

If at EGO 700 you didn't understood that this game has an horizontal progression, then nothing can be done for you, it's just like people who continue to kill skitterlings after EGO said that they destroy crystal... failled understanding?

    I play a lot...

Btw it's better if I play 15 minutes but I bought Bits than if I played hours and bought nothing...

If you were looking for steeped tiers and hard numbers to validate your leveling, this is probably not the game for you. Progression in this game is mostly lateral. As someone already mentioned, leveling unlocks more perk slots. Do you NEED more perks to play this game? No. But perks offer synergies that augment different playstyles. Again, none of it is NECESSARY, but is an option.

The problem here is best described by a statement by Will Wright, "No game designer ever went wrong by overestimating the narcissism of their players." Here, the Devs have erred in the other direction and underestimated.

The progression system in Defiance does not offer blatantly notable acknowledgement of a player's progression. This in turn causes them to feel robbed of some sort of prestige that they feel should accompany their efforts. This is why Gamer Scores, Trophies, and Cheevos matter so much in today's gaming community. People want to feel that the time they've "invested" in playing a game is meaningful and worth something.

EGO rating is completely useless in term of equipment/skills.

Seriously , I'm ego 700+ and the weapons/shields are the same since ego 20.
I sometimes find a weapon with a synergy , but they are like 10% melee or 5% reload. Got two legendaries yesterday , one was a grenade launcher with the awesome power of fire rate +10% with a max clip of 1 , the other was a sniper rifle with the same stats as the sniper rifle I got at the beginning + melee +15%.

    WOOHOO !!! LEGENDARY !
I'm so glad I grinded my way up to something as satisfying as 80 points of damage.

More : hours and hours of grinding to equip a skill that is barely visible in term of stats on the character and do not improve at all the fun factor of the game (WOOHOO !! 3% ammo regen on critical kill...).

I'm halfway through the campaign and I feel I'm done with the game , the characters do not evolve one bit , and the loot system is the most boring I've ever seen since you only find level 1 weapons.
Pursuits are pointless grinding without any rewards since all you got is more EGO and I'm certainly not pushing this to ego 4000 only to find weapons with melee+ 16%.

This was a fun game , until I realized there was no excitement or surprises usually found in the loot system of that kind of game.
Ego 2.2k and I will tell you that entire new thing opens up when hit that ego at lv 2k , one thing is the shops like top notch guns if there 2k get a new bonus add to the weapon, and there alot more smaller stuff will see just , most people will not say it or notice the effect, but there a reason some people can dominate on leaderboards and pvp because they been working on there guns stats in ways that , you will see if looking for it , not a hand me down a free or buy that gun , i know there a few guns some friends unlocked that they got they not sell yet for even 20million script.

There is a progression if your ego gets higher. You start to unlock areas mods guns rep items closer to getting pursuits done and you get new clothing. But I agree your weapon won't be uber but I like it this way so I don't dominate new areas if friends do decide to play this game

    I understand both of you.

TBH, one of the only ways we have to communicate with each other is this board. If we don't communicate, than we all kind of assume we're the only one who feels that way. Trion in that case never hears of organize people pissed at an issue, instead sloughing off individual complaints as 'unique'.

The issue of this being in a new thread of a resurrected thread is a different discussion that I don't feel like muddying the waters with.

Erm what? For one, you DO grind in Defiance, Keycodes, Rep, etc, the only difference is you get nothing for it. You ask why should people who play longer have an advantage, maybe because they worked for it. I couldn't care less about PvP, keep the weapons as they are for that but for PvE there should be a level of progression worth my time.
Progression makes the game more social, gives players something to work towards, hence giving longevity to the game. Without that why not remove weapon skills, perks, and just have standard guns like a normal shooter.

    This.

Defiance just isn't that kind of game nor should it be. There are plenty of options in the gaming world that give you a great deal of progression for time spent in game. In Defiance, the more you play the more you learn, that's how you progress.

Really? Im pretty sure after the first day (If even that) I knew everything there was to know about Defiance. Shoot things, things die. After that there is nothing else to learn, investing time into a game that is supposed to run for a long time needs more than that.

There are tons of games that provide you with that power increase that you are looking for. Hundreds of them. This is not one of them. Why do you even post here if you don't like this game?
