I don't know what they were thinking when they decided on Ego. I've heard the game was changed a lot between alpha and beta. Maybe that is why Ego is essentially a a worthless number charade to show progress in a game which has little and what it does have is completely frivilous.

Defiance's skill bar is so low there is literally no substantial rewards for doing anything. It's a participation award MMO, but the rewards are so bad it's turning players off from continuing to play. I literally show up to arkfalls because that is the entirety of "endgame" content once you've complete the story missions and jumped around in circles shooting my rocket launcher to win. My reward is terrible shields that don't matter, a damage leaderboard, possibly a new pantsuit if I did it enough.

The only redeeming quality that could have been in this game would be competitive multiplayer except horrid design decisions and lack of care from the developers sealed it's fate.

Well, in that respect, how much of a bonus is your definition of progression? Would the possibility of a weapon dropping that did 1% more damage than normal be enough? (Most raid upgrades in Cata and MoP were about this much assuming you had just one gear level below). Or if it had a synergy with a random perk or ego power? Mods that just make the weapons look sweet in addition to their normal bonus (aka Datek's energy blade as a melee bonus mod)? Vehicles that were slightly better or looked unique?

What size carrot do you need?

Agreed. Plus posts get lost so you don't know who's posted what.

There needs to be more motivation to continue to play this game. Why have levels if they are useless? I'm level 1,177 and I still go in the beginning area and can be knocked down...

EGO does not have anything to do with your equipment. That is what mods are for. EGO is an implant in the body of the ark hunter. It does not affect what you use. It affects how well you use it. The weapons are similar for balance across levels. You can level within a certain type of weapon to increase damage/reload/etc that is what improves with your level of "experience".

I believe the EGO rating system is a thinly veiled jab at the "Epeen" obsession of gamers these days. It is over-inflated and does little more than indicate how much time someone has ground into the game. The fact that people are complaining about its lack of value as a vertical progression gauge, in a game that is clearly designed around lateral progression, is hilarious. I'd bet someone in the game design department is laughing their *** off at this thread.

Gear does get better... slightly. After EGO 1600 or so, I noticed weapons were dropping with two "bonus rolls," and that some new effects were showing up. For instance, I found an AR as a vendor special that had x1.05 DMG and x1.25 crit.

    For mature, casual gamers, BYOB.
