So far I have been using print screen and then putting them into paint and saving them, I just checked my main defiance folder and there seems to be no folder for screen shots.
Is it just me or does any one else think a screenshot folder/ option would be nice?

Well, you'd typically expect the standard 'Prt Scr' to work even if there wasn't a specific function for it.. but no, that just produces a black screen. I think it was basically disabled for the NDA'd Alpha etc to try and control (rather pointlessly) and never made it back in.

Not to mention everything is dumbed down for the consoles...... that;s the only reason I can see for not allowing us to keep the chat window up all the time. They don't want PC to have something console doesn't, and console peeps don't chat via typing

He is correct. What you're actually doing when you hit printscreen in windowed mode is taking a screenshot of your desktop and that requires you to paste the image into a new image file.
This game does not have an inherent screenshot function that is native to the majority of pc games. It's lazy programming. So you either have to use the steam overlay, fraps or some other recording program that has a screenshot function.

@Harnace: I use TS and seldom use the chat because it is terrible, I don't really see that changing much so I am not fussed with it.
