In this new video, IGN is now talking on a phenomenon around the gaming industry that is becoming more and more popular with video games developers but also becoming a real plague and curse for consumers:

Following the latest Gearbox-Sega fiasco: Aliens Colonial Marines, gamers spent $60 on this game thinking it would be just as advertised in all the videos they saw... Which turns out to be false, Sega and Gearbox have been hit with a class-action lawsuit that accuses the companies of promoting videos of Aliens: Colonial Marines that were nothing like the game that actually got released.

Since many videos did the same with Defiance, promoting a lot of false aspects of the game, making a large amount of players pre-ordering the game, Trion could now face the same problems as well.

Do you think that, like Gearbox and Sega, players will now take legal actions regarding the state of Defiance game compared to what the developers showed us in many of the early videos, ads and interviews?

In this particular video the developer is advertising the game having things that never was implemented in game:

1 - A real interactive weather system in game that will affect the players immersion dramatically and affecting the gameplay directly and the look of the game itself. 4:00 minutes

2- Vehicles advertised and presented as in game, the same ones as in the TV series 4:59 minutes

3- TV show and game constantly reinforced each other, and battles the players fight in game are changing the outcome of the TV show itself and events of the TV show imediately reflected in the game. 5:18 minutes

1- Vehicles that players can use together as "Transports" in open world to use as resources gathering 1:48 minutes

2- "Thousands" of weapons, that we can collect 2:13 minutes

3- Allowing all platforms to play "simultaniously" inside one mmo universe 3:45 minutes
(Gives the impression for players that they will be able to all join and play together)

I'm sure if people wanted to sue Trion for this, it could be a successful venture...

But I personally see no point. Yeah a lot of things suck but it's not even the worst game I've played this year. It's passable and the only thing that pisses me off is knowing they could've done much better.

defiance has its quirks. every one rushed to beat the game with in the first week of playing. i did as well. how long was Skyrim main quest 3-4 hours? it's all in the side missions and emergencies. the phasing thing is stupid. they are making freight yard playable. THEY ARE TRYING. defiance doesn't need a law suit, as long as there making continuous improvements. how bored would everyone be with the servers shut down completely; because they can till they fix every thing.
ACM deserves to be sued that is straight up bait and switch here is our demo: it shiny and equal to AVP. here your game: bland no excitement, and breaks movie canon

With colonial marines, this is understandable. Prerelease footage (I believe there was some from e3 last year) showed a much more detailed game than what was released.

on the one map i don't know the name of it there sits a truck. and you look at this truck for 2 minutes then the details of the truck shows up it bland for 2 minutes. this is with the game installed to hard drive
