Hey OP,
Do you think the only way to balance PvP is to include aim assist? What about limiting loadouts to certain classes, such that there is a balanced ratio of AoE and homing weapons to directed target weapons? What about separate sensitivity sliders for look and zoom? Maybe an increased variation in map layout and size as well? I feel like there are better ways than just adding aim assist. Other TPS's have polished PvP experiences without needing aim assist, and I think it's because of those reasons I gave above.
Additionally, even those games which are dedicated completely to shooting, by developers with an excellent pedigree in shooting mechanics, still may take several iterations to get balances right. For example, Gears of War took 3 iterations before most people were satisfied. Even then, the retweaking with GoW:Judgment by EPIC further alienated most players. Trion has a rocky road ahead and will need to constantly juggle several options before they can get a really nice PvP experience going. I don't think adding one tweak will be sufficient.
I've read a few of your post but really disagree with this. I was all over alpha/beta trying to get a way to turn aim assist off. I love the assult rifle and use it more than any other gun, aim assist makes the game far to boring. I want to kill stuff not press a few buttons and watch the computer do it, thats what wow's for.
I understand that you see everyone using spread/locking/blast weapons in TDM and then trying to carry it over to shadow wars, some do it well most don't. It is what it is NEW and UNFINISHED everyone wants everything perfect at launch but the best games take years to balance and expand. Just chill a bit and enjoy the freight yard when we can play it again.
I'm not the greatest pvper in the world and I don't know everything but I have played games like this for quite a bit and have learned patient. Personally I want charge blades but just have to wait, then after DLC there will be more for everyone to argue about.
Got a bit side tracked but in summary any aim assist in pvp would ruin this for me, keep what little difficulty there is in the game please. You want easy grab a shotgun and get close or line a corridor in detonator rounds and hide/wait. If you are 'good' as you clame then just keep at your weapon selection and be happy with each kill as it's a testimony to your skills
Mercenaries you know you want to
Iam educated enough, read your topic, i do play PVP, so here's my reply:
"Are you mad bro?" This may sound like a stupid question, but it's actually very thought-through. Because i can see that you're obviously on the brink of raging over this subject and also on several other threads you created which sprung out of the ground like mushrooms... Btw iam gonna use flashy colors so you can't miss the important bits.
What i suggest they do is completely remove aim assist, on PC anyway, i understand that consoles need aim assist for the crappy movement of the controller joystick. However, aim assist on PC only promotes brainless shooting without aiming or skills. You said it yourself: the game is full of homing weapons or weapons where it's impossible to miss with... so why would you still need aim assist on PC?
Tbh i've never seen an online shooter game where in PVP a headshot is so f*cking useless and a shotgun so deadly. All you have to do in this game is the next: equip a shotgun, use cloaking, use the perk with the 30% extra damage, then go into a match and wait untill your power is ready, then cloak and stalk people from behind, then blow their brains out from a distance between 2 and 20 meters (cause you still need 2 or 3 shots to kill at both distances) and if the opponent turns around to shoot you, you can just start bunny hopping over them and shooting down on their heads with the shotty... and then repeat 500 times.
In most online shooters it's the snipers that are the most powerfull and the shotguns the least preferable weapons, in this game it's exactly the opposite. Maybe the devs didn't like campers... who knows... I hate campers too, but i'd still rather prefer camping sniper than iam-gonna-blow-you-to-oblivion-shotguns, because the first of these two is the more realistic one (and don't start on me with that this is sci-fi and shouldn't be realistic at all... you know damn well what i mean).
The biggest example of this is: Did you know that at a distance of 20m my "EMC Commando SMG" with fire damage (one of the best medium range SMGs) looses more damage due to fallout damage reduction over distance than a shotgun? Because i've tried both, so i can tell. It takes an entire clip of 40 bullets to kill somebody with that gun at that distance, even when aiming on the head (the same silly rules apply to a sniper rifle headshot)... In what world is something like that possible?
All the shotty has to do is turn around, point in my general direction, let aim assist do the work for him and then spam the fire button and iam dead before i've even fired 20 bullets.
And that is a situation where he isn't cloaked or didn't surprise me from behind, in this case i opened fire first.
Aim assist on PC was never nessecary in any online shooter on PC, so it shouldn't be in this game either, because i simply hate anything that makes it even easier for OP-noob-weapons-users like shotties with cloaking.
As these PVP gameplay mechanics work atm, it's even wiser to try and kill a shotty/cloak user by farting in his general direction than actually trying to fire at him.![]()
Yeah PC doesn't need aim assist at all, that's because the level of precision the mouse offers. That's why Quake 3 pro's are amazing to watch.(Or counterstrike pro's but I think Quake takes more skillz) ON console however, you have games like Halo, or COD with just a little aim assist(to the point people barely feel it with a controller.) and it creates different skill levels. Obviously the aim assist they add isn't game breaking or you'd never see anyone go negative in those titles.(Which they do all the time.) Controllers by themselves are just inherently inaccurate. What's funny is if you really want to feel what no aim assist feels like with a controller load up Halo 4 and try and shoot a teammate long range with a DMR, and do it without strafing to the side to lead your shots while he's running around.
True, on console i only see people making headshots with a sniper by holding the crosshair at head-height and then strafing left or right to line up the headshots.
[QUOTE=Slay;575090]Removing homeing/locking? Well that's not smart, how would you like a guided rocket launcher that doesn't home lol? How else are you suppose to kill a cerberus anyways? Some pistol shots aren't going to do it.
I use a shotgun, 10 shots of some pump actions down a cerb very easily. I cant stand seeing detonators, rockets etc used in TDM, it would be nice to see people all using ARs, SMGs etc, would be much more enjoyable. Just an epic rocket and explosive f**k fest most of the time.
The reason Trion are having to advertise PVP game modes in thst MASSIVE YELLOW WRITING all over the bloody screen is because nobody really wants to play it cos of the large number of fools that participate (not aimed at you, from what you state, i agree with much of it) if PVP modes wish to become more fruitful and enjoyable to play something needs to be done, thats for sure.
I strongly disgree with this post. You do not need aim assist at all. ARs, SMGs, LMGS, and Pistols are more than viable in this game. I throw them on every once in a while and still do well. It just actually takes skill to use them, unlike most games. If you cannot use them, that is fine. Just don't cry for aim assist. Yes, the OP is a cry for some extra assistance in getting kills that requires significantly less skill. Any argument that you present is fallible. I know what your definition of "aim assist" is, and there is a slight variation of it present in current PvP. Just because it is not incredibly noticeable, or even consistent, does not mean that it does not exist already. This game truly doesn't even need it. If you cannot aim, use a weapon that does not require it. If you want to get better, practice. Just because you can pick up any weapon in CoD or some other shooter and be incredibly efficient does not mean that it should be easy in every game. Practice or just stop asking for extra assistance.
