    I didn't read it wrong.

Syfy spent $100 million, the game cost $60 million but that cost was split with Trion. So Syfy put up $30 million and Trion put up $30 million.

I guess the only mistake I did make was assume Trion gets all revenues generated by game sales (minus handler cuts of course) and that those are not shared in some way with Syfy in some way.

It doesnt matter what percentage someone invests. It total cost is what this discussion is about. The percentages will get spit in the end amongst who contributed. Trion doesn't keep all the money that comes in and the other investors dont get there money back. Like any business each investing party owns a percentage of the game.

Like you stated in your last statement.

When someone uses the MMO argument to excuse the amount of money in pockets, it would be worth mentioning that Defiance isn't a real MMO yet, at least as long as it makes you feel as if playing with bots. The lack of any real social interactions and content being removed makes the MMO tag invalid.

In your opinion. So far I have invited/recommended seven friends to the game and all of them quite enjoy it. But then again, they are all adults and dont expect games to deliver them the dang moon. Just having some fun is enough for us.

A Sponsor is not an investor though, and they probably have contributed a good bit of cash between Dodge and Axe, Dodge especially. But more importantly the money a sponsor kicks in does not have to be returned in the form of cash, but in deliverables.

Now investors do expect a return, but that is an assumption that Trion took money to produce Defiance from other parties and did not use their own capital. Bottom line Trion spent $30 million to make Defiance, how they go about recouping that cost most likely will not be from single sales of the game but from a number of different revenue streams. You can't think in a single purchase world anymore when it comes revenue generation.

Also the VGCharts records total number of sales of a game at a big box store but doesn't separate or change the version that was purchased, so a few thousand of those copies may not have just been the $60 version but the CE or UE versions at a higher price point.

Honestly the data doesn't give you an accurate picture to say "They aren't making their money back! The game will close cause it's not profitable!" at this stage I'd have to say that Trion is probably pretty happy from their end, and if the rating hold Syfy is going to be happy on their end. The key will be for both to hold their strong momentum and keep generating new gamers and viewers.

This thread is a subtle blend of half-truths, innuendo, and out and out lies.

Oh wait... I take it all back. It wasn't subtle.

Lack of social interactions? I've had more interaction and participation with people in game than I did in the last year of playing WoW. You want to socialize more then join a guild, it's what you have to do in WoW, unless you consider the Trade/Gen chat spam 'socialization'

Removing Content makes the MMO tag invalid? Well I guess WoW jumped the shark with Cataclysm and changed the entire world into something different, removing all previous content that was available. Guess that makes it a post-MMO?

Your statements are illogically conceived, your point is invalid.
