Signatures are like advertisements, it's PR that people tend to remember...there can be great value in a signature.

Especially when you have a consistent theme...like I have smiling Bob and cats. My signatures have been haunting gaming forums for years. I didn't make any of them, but they always garner attention.

To be honest when I see over elaborate signatures I think the person has too much spare time. Also when people try to compete with them I believe it is rather sad.

Well, I'm not sure of your gaming history, but there are some games that are inherently political, and having people remember you on the forums where a lot of political warfare takes place is definitely an asset.
