I personally lost faith in Televised Broadcasting all together. Plus it's a media that is slowly going the way of the Dodo bird since we can access almost everything over the internet.

I watch my Defiance Episodes off of Syfy's site and any other show I just do a quick google search and can find what I'm looking for in a matter of minutes.

I am happy that Syfy has stopped trying to cater to everyone and has gone back to what it is good at. (I'm thinking they had a change of leadership or finally got a clue)

Honestly, I'm not quite sure what it is you're getting at. Do you hate them now, or are you liking them more now? You're not too clear.
I can understand that you want to defend wrestling (I'm not a huge fan but I find it entertaining to watch occasionally) and I don't mind it being on SyFy, but come one.....trying to relate wrestling to SciFi through pyrotech? There isn't anything science fiction about that. Wrestling doesn't emphasize anything scifi related. It is purely an entertainment sporting event type of deal. And the author of this thread is happy about the current SyFy. Not trying to sound too much like a jerk or anything.....but that comparison was to ludicrous to let go or am i??????

    I agree, OP.

They lost me after the name change to SyFy... I still can't believe how effin stupid that spelling is... I SMH every time I see it. Plus, I used to be a big fan of b-movies - but their ridiculous additions to the genre were (and are) downright embarrassing. Put me off entirely. If they brought back the 'creature double feature' on Saturdays and showed classics like Attack of the Killer Bees and The Thing and The Man Who Fell to Earth and the old Godzillas... well, that would be something.

That being said, I am finding the defiance tv show to be somewhat aggravating. There are aspects I love (like Datak and the ethereally beautiful and cunning Casthis) and others I find incredibly annoying (the Irathrian dude, for instance, who seems to wear a lazy application of steam punk inspired gear - I mean, who rides a motorcycle wearing a friggin top hat?). Still, I can only imagine that show getting better.

Ps. I sincerely hope that in the second season, they incorporate more game play. Hell, I'd be happy to see them partake in a real arkfall at this point... Especially if that arkfall included a ******bag driving around and around if only so that Nolan could fire a rocket at the roller, pull the ****** out of the car, and shake him hard while explaining loudly that the skitterlings are needed to break the crystal.

So you're saying Kane who has the power to summon fire, and often does, granted it's firecrackers/pyro, is less Science Fiction than someone that summons CGI Fire at best?
Lets not forget the people that get beaten down in a manner that would suggest serious hospitalization once, twice, sometimes 3 times a week (RAW, Superstars, and Smackdown), and maybe even 4 times with PPVs coming out practically the next day with a bandage, or something at worst? People taking hits from steel chairs, and sledgehammers, and 20ft ladders, and being relatively fine the next day? That's not any less science fiction than it happening in a TV show?

And that's not counting the weird stuff that's happened well before Syfy picked them up. <.<

Lets face it, as gladitorial as it is, you have to suspend disbelief when you watch WWE. It's more fantasy than anything. They're trained to not kill eachother, and not get killed in combat while they make it look like they nearly do get eachother killed, and they do some strange things now and then to make the other look good... just like actors in any other action TV show. And WWE never has any repeats! :P

Mark Henry, "the world's strongest man" has done some pretty amazing things on WWE. Last friday he sought to break a world record of human brawn! Human Science at work. I don't believe WWE puts on acts with that guy, though I could be wrong. Would pretty much invalidate the things he does, though if it's special effects, though.

The Acrobatics pulled off requires physical science to get right, or they'd just kill themselves.

Hell, it's Science Fiction in itself some of those "finishers" do as much damage as they do to allow a person to win the match.

I know what you're getting at, too, though. It's not the first show I'd consider Science Fiction, but since we're on the subject, I'm starting to rethink that. lol

    Raven......Oh god.......your logic......it's killing me.......X_X

I'm honestly a bit amazed that you continue to uphold the idea that the WWE is science fiction.....I almost don't have the will to try and combat your logic.....almost.

Fantasy is not synonymous with science fiction. Saying wrestling has fantasy undertones is much more agreeable than saying it is science fiction. The difference between the two is that science fiction focuses on scientific and technological advances that seem believable, while fantasy is pure imagination. Just use Google to look up how the scifi genre is defined. Wrestling doesn't really fit into it. And it seems like quite a stretch to encompass choreographed fighting as science fiction. Your remark on Mark Henry make it seem less like scifi. Those physical feats are not fictitious nor futuristic. They are real which equates wrestling to sports. Saying exaggerated physical feats are science fiction is also pretty silly. Those martial arts movies where the people do physically crazy things is not defined as science fiction. So those things like Kane and Undertaker are more fantasy while the rest is action sports/drama/choreography. Wrestling makes no attempt at trying to explain how all these things happen in a scientifically futuristic way. Without that plot element you can't really describe something as science fiction.

BWAHAHAHA- erm, ignore that evil laughter. <.< :P

Yeah, I'll grant you that it's not so scientific in the sense of technology, and more fantasy, and science fact.
Still, Syfy went beyond pure science fiction to encompass the imagination what with that "Imagine Greater" commercial campaign, and the abandonment of the Sci-fi spelling.

In my sleep deprived, tired state, I'm more trying to illustrate how it fits the theme of Syfy channel over it being actual science fiction.

I'm glad to hear SyFy's beginning to turn around. I remember back when it first started as a network, and it was great for a while. A series of horrible decisions (imho) -- dropped Farscape (!), started showing wrestling (?), changed their name to "SyFy," and continual embarrassments like their "made for SyFy original movies" -- caused me to effectively abandon it. Defiance is the only show of theirs I've actually watched in years, and I doubt I would have bothered had not it been involved with the game.

In fact, on my list of "Pros vs. Cons" with regards to the concept of the Defiance game, one of the biggest "Cons" was the fact that it was going to be involved with SyFy in some fashion. The show, while hardly award-winning material, is quite acceptable, and has a lot of potential if they can pull it together.

Hmm, kinda like the game, actually.

To answer some of the questions from you guys i Approve of what they have done now versus a few years ago where it was just really bad b movie crap additions reality tv shows which were regurgated from the Living channel, now with its new baby Defiance doing well atm, Warehouse 13 season 4 has restarted which gives me a reason to watch the channel on a thursday and they have the new season of Lost Girl which i personally haven't seen yet but it looks interesting.

Continuum aswell is coming back for a second season so it seems Syfy is actually caving a little to the fanbases and taking a gamble greenlighting these shows.
