Yeah, Sledge is full of it. He either got an orange on the internal server or is mistaken. Or the third option... which would be disappointing.
ego 1300, I haven't seen a orange weapon, grenade, or shield anywhere other than a lockbox. I recieved orange grenades Thursday (tier 2) and a pistol today (tier 3).
He's the forum P.R. guy, of course he's full of it. It's his job to be, shouldn't really surprise you.
"Rare" loot is actually blue (green = "uncommon", purple = "epic", etc.) so I read this "rare loot weekend" as "blue loot weekend" - or simply "meh".
P.S. I've never seen a single purple drop from a mob yet alone orange.

I could be mistaken, but my takeaway from the rare loot weekend event is that your chances increase because there is simply more loot dropping. I haven't seen any increase in rarity per-se, but I have seen an increase in the amount of drops. The more things drop, the better your chances at scoring something useful. 8791263847123 white drops is not the same as a purple or an orange though.
