So you're comparing basic features like Mail and some sort of trade broker to combat Pets, really, wow.

why do you consider those to be basic features?
Your Challenger won't drive? You're probably in the passenger seat.
Can't sell/delete an item? Check all of your loadouts, it's likely still equipped.
Auction house? Why? It'll just render bits purchased lock boxes pointless, and weapons are mostly equal anyway.
Gear/enemy progression? No thanks, it'll only render 90% of the content trivial when you reach the highest zone.

Auction house isnt a "basic" feature and i hope we Never get it in Defiance, if there comes one, then say hello to prices on everything go up and you think 30k was high for a challenger... then they prolly go up to 100k and thats on normal npc prices and so will All mods and weapons on normal vendors.

I think maybe what they should do instead of a auction have an area for people to trade other players or have possibly like a player shop like when you inspect there will be an option to see what they player is selling and if you like it buy it. But to help with that have like an area that no creatures can enter just players to trade, buy, and maybe setup parties for co-op and stuff be an easy solution i think for everyone also be a good way to meet new people.

if your worried about prices going up on things then have you gone through the vendor forum on this website itself. It is already quite inflated as it is 300k+ for a Legendary FRC SAW when an epic can be just as good or better depending on what attributes it was spawned with, all depends on that trusty roll. Auction houses would simplify the current auction system (being the forum) and bring it in game where in my opinion would make it easier to communicate and get what you are looking for faster and easier as well as sellers getting rid of their inventory faster and easier and if you work together you can get a even price market flowing through but, like all games (WoW, EQ1-2 for EX.) the in game economy will go up and down depending on DLC's and just what happens to be the hot mod or weapon once a hot fix hits.

you don't? name one MMO that doesn't have a mail system or a trade broker for that matter.
I consider them "basic" features because they are "standard" features in every MMO and this IS an MMO, MMOtps but still an MMO.

That said, since this game has no community or any sense of community at all, maybe that is why some people are so much against this.

Anything is better than using the forums to trade. Even a trade chat. Realisticall tho supply and demand is what it is with or without an AH. Probably cheaper since more access to supply as ppl won't have to go thru forums, which most probably don't.

I mean trading on the forums? That is like telegraphs vs texts haha

auction houses/trade brokers are commonplace in MMORPGs, not so much in shooters, there aren't many MMO shooters to compare to, but planetside doesn't have one, nor do any of the lobby shooters, barring TF2 if that even counts. Just because it has the term MMO, doesn't mean it's expected to have the same features you may have seen in some other MMO sub-genres.

An AH is handy in those games, because the gear is vastly different across the game, as well as crafting components, and player produced items. Defiance has none of these things, and the gear is all relatively the same. Weapons are only marginally better.

An AH has nothing to do with community. You don't interact with the community to buy or sell items in any AH I've seen - other than EQ, but usually that's just an AFK player. Most often it's simply an automated vendor system. It could be argued that by bringing people to the forums to post, there is more of a community presence with the current method.

You would get the same effect as an AH in this game with a vendor with a much greater diversity and stock count.

I would absolutely agree with this. The forum IS the Defiance community, at least until we get some chat system upgrades...

An Auction House would be detrimental to bit sales- yes there are still outfits, vehicles, and inventory... but those are static: you buy them once, and then you have it. Not so with lockboxes. They are more like a lottery ticket.

You can see several threads of people, saying how they bought lockboxes with bits. This is clearly working for Trion. By adding an Auction House, they lose that income, because at that point, NO ONE needs lockboxes; you just go to the AH and get what you want. This makes Scrip extremely important, and minimizes Keycodes.
