Concensus on best way to efficiently steer a vehicle?

I have my wife sit beside me and nag me like she does when I actually drive a real car. Without the nagging, I can't drive in the game. Well at least not until I've had a few beers.

Wish they would patch in mouse stearing, a la Borderlands.

You should be able to turn your vehicle with the mouse like your character when on foot.
