A Trion Shocker(Is Defiance Next?)

Rift finally bit the bullet today. Trion announced it's going free to play. This was surprising to say the least considering it was one of the few subscription MMO's that had a successful launch and playerbase. It's clear that Trion decided to they could increase revenue going this route even if their previous business model was profitable. If Trion is doing that with their flagship game what are the odds of Defiance going this route?

Looks like Defiance might be going free to play shortly.

Would it improve the game? Would it mean more and faster updates?

This isn't a shocker. Writing has been on the wall since the Cash Shop was added for name changes and such...then again when Korea was 1-49 F2P, then again when Scott Hartsman left..etc..etc.

lol? what? Defiance is a free to play format already, just cause they charge for first access(disc) doesnt mean that its pay to play... pay to play when it comes to mmo's mean pay per month subscription... just sayin

I can not even address the stupidity in your statements, I do not mean to attack but I mean common the game is BUY TO PLAY there was never a subscription for it. DLC is not a must have but most will opt for it yes but some of it is free to begin with.

I think I am going to get a aneurysm from this I just can't wrap my head around people like you I feel some generation out there failed to do its duty on raising children. What has happened...

Not to mention, it is already free to play. Buy to play technically but no monthly fee. And most F2P games make you pay extra for DLC/expansions, which is the actual model of Defiance.
On a sidenote, according to your "smart" avatar, you quit playing. Why bother then ?

Go free to play? I wasn't aware I was paying a subscription for Defiance. What do you mean? That they'll just start giving the game away for free? Or Microsoft is folding, and I won't have to play my LIVE fee anymore? What is this?

It came to light today that Trion decided that Rift was going free to play nearly a year ago to announcing it today. THey recently released an expansion and a yearly subscription package as well. Trion has the precedent there and it's known. I wouldn't be surprised if they planned Defiance to be a free to play en devour, but made it a package price for the first couple of months after release.

The hallmarks of a free to play game are already front and center in Defiance with lockboxes, keys, and a lack of customization.

So many console gamers here. Defiance isn't free to play. You paid an entry fee already.
