Apparently you can ignore half a decade of stats that show otherwise.
Free to play isn't some novelty gimmick which doesn't produce results. It's why Trion decided a year ago that their flagship game should go that route and why their current games in development are slated to be free to play.
Are you people gamers or is this your first ever video game? It's starting to sound like it is it.

Because in game stores will always appeal to some. While it is a small percentage now that uses it.......if the player base increases drastically the flat number (not talking about the percentage) of sales in there would potentially rise. This is a very effective source of revenue in games because they don't have physical manufacturing or material costs. Person writes the code for an item.....it gets added. Production costs basically ends there.

I won't stop playing if it goes from B2P to F2P. I will however, stop playing if it goes to a Pay to Win type system.
But stop for a minute and think. I paid $60 for Defiance and I've got right around 300 hours of play in it. That's more than I have in Skyrim and as much as I have in Borderlands 1 and 2 combined. That's not such a bad deal in my book.
I'd love to be playing Defiance this time next year, but if it ends tomorrow I won't shed any tears or feel like I was ripped off.
It took two years and the game is barely afloat.
This game hasn't been out two months. And somehow you're shocked that a game that's been out so much longer is in a "better state".
And you don't want Defiance to fail? That's why your avatar is an uninstall button.
Trollolololol....
Your logic train is broken.
DC was profitable long before just now. The reason it continued is because it was producing results. Also it's not just DC Universe it's nearly every single free to play MMO. From Dungeons and Dragons to even Star Wars. Free to play works and there is a long history of it working turning disasters into profitable games worth keeping the servers up.
Troll much, little boy?

I dont understand the point of the thread. Its not even a question whether defiance will be free eventually(my money is it will go free, at the very least for playstation plus and the like, when the second season starts airing) Its simple buisness, when the sales of the game diminish and profit is primarily from the sale of dlc and bits you release the game for free in order to provide an influx of players a percentage of whom will then purchase the dlc. Its foolish not to. Well and as wow proves by relying entirely on it to hold its player base, server population is an important aspect of maintaining a happy player base.
As for rift going free to play, again its not a suprise, pay to play has a somewhat limited audiance, ever since guild wars established and proved the viability of the model a lot of games have migrated towards it.
DCUO was and is a substandard WoW clone which limped along for quite some time and has now gone F2P to stay alive as long as possible. Which probably won't be much longer. There's nothing wrong with F2P, but either games should be designed for them from the get go or they have enough cash in the bank to do a worthy transition. Defiance isn't in either camp, nor is there any indication it needs to move to the latter camp.
You don't know what you're talking about. I mean that literally. You don't know how much Defiance has made. You don't know how successful their transaction model has been. You don't know anything about their operation. You're a PC fanboy who uninstalled this game in the first month it was out and still like to come back to the forums to troll. For whatever reason.
F2P is fine, but it's no silver bullet transaction model. Defiance hasn't even released their first DLC yet. Calling for Free 2 Play now is just whiny nonsense from overly entitled gamers who don't like paying full price for games, even if they do end up playing them for 80 hours without having to pay a sub or pay an extra dime.
