I actually don't mind the data recorders as long as there is something interesting on them. They're really hit or miss on that one.
I still think that the first episodic missions should still be there for all new players, especially since it's content that wasn't removed, it's still there just locked as far as I can tell. Those particular missions setup quite a bit of the tie in with the show with the two main characters, and are their best cross over product so far. I wouldn't expect these episodic joints to be any bigger than they have been so far. But hopefully with some attention to the writing, they'll nail it and just be better overall.

So one would think pheromone grenades, right? well I could've sworn there was actually an entry about pheromone grenades on the main site(before they removed the entry about rynn) and then we end up with a little splash and 3 parasites like from the infector gun. Yet the tooltip says "Spawns hellbugs" that was just like... shooting off one bottle rocket during the finale in a fireworks display.
Yea, it certainly didnt feel like much of a reward. And long overdue for something which probably should have been made available from the start. Me-thinks everyone was expecting it to spawn skitterlings/etc... not the parasites we have now

Im happy to have anything new, but still felt a little letdown

I guess I will throw in my 2 scrip about it, more or less I agree with Remag. The first mission with the back story cut scene was good, gave us something to connect the show to the game, but in the same token they did release (unlock) the content a couple of hours before the show aired.

The Data recorder missions, this was just a fetch mission done poorly. If it wasn't due to game mechanic limitations I would have liked to see the player having to fight hell bugs and the rogue e-reps while investigating the areas for clues, but in a bigger role. Fight off 2-3 waves of soldiers then the mini boss fight with their captain, take him down and he drops a data recorder. This would make the mission a bit more exciting, you get the data recorder info, and maybe with the amount of fighting that is needed the enemies can re-spawn before the next person comes to that area for the mission.

The last part with the bunker instance was confusing for 5 seconds, they need to place the icon on the mini map on the real location of Rynn. In the bunker the fighting was actually fun, but the challenge went out the window once you started destroying the mind controlling devices and allowed the hell bugs to attack the rogue e-reps. You made the enemies harder but then made it easier at the same time.

Overall I think the story tie-in mission was sub par, they did a few things right but a lot of things wrong. It felt a bit rushed as it was not properly tested (shocker there) and could have been a tad better with a few creative decisions.

Are you saying you had no soldiers at the sites, or that you wanted more of them? There were a lot of people doing this, so if you saw none, there's a good chance that they were all dead. Having it spawn like an emergency in waves might have made it more common to see soldiers active, instead of already dead.
Your Challenger won't drive? You're probably in the passenger seat.
Can't sell/delete an item? Check all of your loadouts, it's likely still equipped.
Auction house? Why? It'll just render bits purchased lock boxes pointless, and weapons are mostly equal anyway.
Gear/enemy progression? No thanks, it'll only render 90% of the content trivial when you reach the highest zone.

I loved the added info from the data recorders but would have expected a tad bit more content out of the whole thing. But.. all in all, it was pretty cool.

That's what happened to me to. In one of them some guys spawned while I was getting the data recorders, but everyone was doing the episode missions at the same time, so they died in like three seconds XD

You don't have to ask that question, all you had to do was just read the very next sentence, I think I was clear on how I wanted them to setup the data recorder missions. Yes waves of soldiers would have been nice.
