My guess.
The development team for Defiance was moved, laid off, or sent to work on another game. They bring in a new set of devs who are not familiar with the code, and try to patch the game, resulting in many broken patches.
Contrary to popular belief, it is not a hamster on a wheel powering the servers. The Devs are actually the ones running on the wheels, and the hamster is the one that writes the code.
I've wasted 456 hours on worse games.

Madog claims to have 32 days of played time.
Given there is no afk timer or such, you could easily leave yourself logged in and rack up near constant play time without actually playing. So take these numbers with a grain of salt.
