I didn't do it with mass effect's RNG store, and I'm certainly not going to do it with lockboxes. Its essentially a rigged casino.

Yeah the Multiplayer has a store. Its how you unlock characters and weapons. Its essentially the same as the lockboxes. You have the option to by them with real money. However 2 gold games which take me about 22-24 minutes each can earn you enough credits for a top pack from the store. 1 platinum game gives you enough to buy a top pack. So you really would be silly to spend real money on the RNG store in ME3.

Something else trion could take a page from Mass Effect from: Free DLC. The multiplayer DLC in ME3 was all free. I'm assuming they made enough off store microtransactions to make up for it.

I'm a silly person sometimes.
However given that it's tied to Multiplayer the risk of me being silly is low as I'm playing for the AWESOME story and single player beauty of a game.

I will admit i spent $$ on the gearboxes in ME3, only reason i did is becuse i'd have leftover MSP from buying a paid DLC so i'd drop the extra MSP on a gearbox here and there so it was money i had already spent.

$5 for a lockbox that has a garuntee of garbage...heh not gonna happen.

@Magellan: Yeah i'm a big jerk who said OH YEAH MASS EFFECT Although today i'll get getting the new patch for Defiance and i'll see how long it takes before i get grumpy while playing lol

Personally I've only spent money on outfits because i'm a junkie but I haven't bought anything in the way of boosts and especially haven't paid real money consciously on lockboxes.

Only once did I hit buy with bits by accident at top Notch once. They have no confirmation on this (and I suspect the reason why is to take the purchase) and it looted my account. Then gave me nothing. I spoke with online chat support who hooked me up with a tier 4 and that's where I got my Orange LMG Rocker from.

There hasn't been anything really worth while there accept the cosmetic outfits. For which I still admit I'm addicted to.

However I haven't played any Defiance since some "jerk" got me addicted to Mass Effect. Why did it take me so long to play it!!!!!!!

LOL. Mass Effect is most definitely not a fail except for maybe 10 minutes of the ending on 3. Even the multiplayer, which was added as an experiment was wildly successful and produced 4 FREE DLCs.

Sphinx is still burnt about the original ending... the "extended cut" aka what i feel was the original ending but got scrapped due to time constraints.. adds a lot more.

Hey say what ya want about EA but i know when i buy an EA game i'm gonna get what i paid for. Can't wait for BF4.

Yeah, that's an... unfortunate design for that; When I first bought a handful of bits from the online store, I had gotten out my credit card, expecting it to ask for it, and was quite surprised that a) it automatically linked in to the CC I had on file with Trion, and b) didn't bother asking for a confirmation before doing such a transaction. Both issues -- especially as the default on a game -- are a Problem Waiting To Happen, imho.

That said, I still just don't understand people actually buying lockboxes with Bits. You'd think after hundreds, thousands, hundreds of thousands of lockboxes opened on this game, and how demonstrably minuscule the chances of getting an orange are, people would realize it's essentially just throwing money away.
Heck, the odds are so low, I don't even bother buying them with resources unless I happen to notice I have enough while at a vendor.

But I guess that's why gambling is an addiction.
