There's still subscription in SWTOR, freebs get reduced access to the game stuff, but full access to the storyline.

just because a product becomes free to play doesn't mean you cannot buy previous paid versions of the game and receive content because of that. Actually that's how it typically occurs. If you buy the core game prior you receive additional benefits for that account.

Sounds like you don't game much at all if you didn't know this quite well known standard.
