    People are so quiet!

    Hey,
I'm new to Defiance. I've been playing for only 3 days and even tho I'm having fun roaming around doing missions and arks... I've noticed nobody is responding in chat when I write something or have a question.

Is my chat broken or are people using something else?
I've got my voice chat turned on as well, but I don't hear anyone talking at all... I just feel so lonely while playing, not making any social contacts, it's like playing with AI players and that kinda gives me this depressive feeling

Anyone else knows what I'm talking about?

Considering how broken chat/UI is a lot of players tend to just not use it. Text from the chat only stays on screen for a second and to open a chat box to see what was said takes a few steps through the UI to open it up. If you are trying to chat to people during an arkfall or a co-op boss fight, players might not even notice it since they are busy looking at other things on the screen than that chat box.

Voice chat is kinda forced on for everyone, once people learned it was on by default they started to mute voice on everything. The audio options are a tad lack luster when it comes to control, you might get an occasional person on voice but they might be in a heated argument with their spouse and not even realize their mic is on.

The chat window is small and unobtrusive, so it's easily missed. For me, it's on the wrong side of the screen so I hardly ever see it. Plus what's been said about how quickly anything that pops up there disappears.

So basically there's no easy way of talking to people in game because they either won't see it or they turned down the voice chat.

Usually when I play MMORPG I expect to make social contacts and chat with people as I play.
Somehow it makes the game feel more alive and I usually meet some great people with who I can play with, so this just makes me sad.
What's the word from devs on the topic? Are they planning on improving the chat UI anytime soon?

I agree, a big part of why I love MMO's is the socializing that goes on. I wish more people would chat, whether voice or text =/
Lift heavy, run fast, live forever.

"I swear by my pretty flower bonnet, I will end you."
"Anyone ever tries to kill you, you try to kill em right back."

    "I aim to misbehave."

Pretty sure devs said chat improvements are on their list. IMO, they need to make a more standard chat window that's resizable and moveable with options for opacity.

They also need to change voice to push-to-talk. Most of us would use it then. As it is now, we have our mics muted all the time because we don't want to broadcast every sound all the time to anyone we're grouped with or standing near. I've done enough co-ops listening to grunts, coughs, background conversations and the like to not want to be that guy. I don't use voice because I have to mute my mic to play and it's generally not worth the trouble of unmuting it.

Chat UI is only a small part of the problem this game has.I don't play it anymore, but I would if I could have a better communication in game.It get's so boring playing by yourself...Hardly worth the "MMO" status it has.Fix this ASAP...
Im not trolling, just sharing an opinion with you guys.

i second that...the game (as most f2p games) is too shallow in the late game stages, repetetive and boring...
and multiplayer is infested by cheaters.

And it will never be fixed because Trion do not care about PC.

Layoffs too, so this game will be dead in a few months.
