For those of you know don't know, this is normal (Trion Layoffs)

This happens all the time and it's not really that much of an issue. A company expands pre-development of a new project and then lets go of people once release is over. It's the way the industry works now. It's not bad news. The only bad news would be if a company got closed down.

The numbers required to develop and make Defiance and Storm Legion (Rift expansion) are much greater than what is required to run those games due to the size of the projects during development to the effort required to run it. Think cabin crews.

It's not because of 'fanboys' or 'poor sales' or even 'failed projects'.

It's not normal to layoff that many plp when the game has only been out 2months and still isn't stable. This is bad no matter how you slice it, the show is doing great and maybe just maybe that will be enough to keep the game going. The thing to watch for now is it the game goes f2p, if that happens......nail in coffin.

EDIT: Also when people are being escorted out of buildings and not getting paid how the heck could you think that's normal???

How many people does it take to fabricate a ship?

Now how many people does it take to man the ship?

Same difference. There's ALWAYS draw down after release and TW just finished two major projects with Storm Legion and Defiance.

Also, it was pretty clear that some of the devs on Defiance just plain sucked at weren't doing a good job. Look at the idiot(s) in charge of freight yard. He/she/they ****ed it up, what, four or five times and it's STILL not working?

So you've got a natural draw down and also some incompetents getting fired. If you check the careers section on TW's site for Defiance there are six or seven positions which were just added. This seems to indicate that those who previously occupied those jobs weren't very good at it.

This game doesn't rely on software sales/subscriptions for a majority of their profits and continuing development, the cash shop is what supports that (which is what most f2p games rely on for profits). In essence it has a typical B2P/F2P model.

If they get so desperate to stop selling the physical software and the cash shop is failing them as is, the game is already in too deep IMO.

it been said that the amount of people laid off is over exaggerated any hows and like others have said most companies lay off a lot of staff once development has finished

one note tho for the cash shop to take off on consoles more i would say cut there prices as its far to expensive when for an outfit you can purchase an arcade game on xbox so yeah

    Wrong.

All of the development dead weight is let go prior to release because their contracts are over with. That includes the artists and QA people.

The only thing "normal" about what occurred yesterday is a game that failed to meet expectations and people were cut to stop the bleeding.

Thank you for pointing out that I can check jobs on the site.. scary amount of Senior positions available...
For the record... when it works... freight yard is awsome... but since they are looking for a senior multiplayer .. designer .. I think multiplayer something ... looks like ya got a point.
