    lmfao

I can really see some clown getting stuck in Super Metroid and looking for what button to press that points him in the right direction.

First, let me start off by saying this is a troll post if there ever was one. "Oh modern gamers this, older gamers that", it was made for flaming and nothing more.

Now, getting down to the context of it. Have you listened to the narcissism of you people? "Well, that was the fun in gaming, to figure something out then keep it a secret to watch all your friends squirm". I got news for you, modern gamers learned how to game from you older gamers. You taught them to be this way. Now you are surprised when they turned out to be a more intense version of what you already are?

Next, you have the issue that some of us older gamers know, which I believe was already mentioned but im going to bring it back up anyway was that we were smart enough to go look for information before just jumping face first into something we knew nothing about. Take Final Fantasy X for example, how are you supposed to figure out you get that special weapon for dodging 100 consecutive lightning bolts. Who was honestly stupid enough to sit down for I dont even want to think of how many hours to figure that out. What kind of person has THAT little of a life. Sitting down to figure some of this stuff out doesnt make you accomplished, it makes you a fool. Would you perform scientific experiments without doing some research first? Then why would you play a video game without researching it? There is nothing wrong with using all available information to solve a problem.

Then, what none of you "hardcore gamers" know how to take into account is not everyone on earth is as blessed as you are, with having no responsibilities, near unlimited funding, and more time then one could know what to do with. Your average gamer does not have 20hrs a day to devote to a video game. We have friends, and work, and lives that do not allow us such amounts of free time. I dont have 6hrs to sit down and figure out some stupid mechanic thats hidden in a bunch of backdrop just so I can progress to the next area. Not everyone plays a game to be challenged by it, some of us only care about them for being an interactive book. Some people sit down and read a book to escape, I however need a bit more activity then that, so I play a video game. And what you have to keep in mind is your hardcore gamers do not make up even a fraction of a games sales. Its the average gamers like me, and we require a game that does not make one want to have a nervous breakdown trying to complete it.

And the great thing about game programming is anyone can learn to do it. If you dont like the caliber of the games coming out right now, by all means, go make your own and show us what you can do. You dont like how games are being dumb'd down for the average gamer, well thats because there are maybe 6 big game developers on earth and they are responsible for 90% of the games on the market. Dont like their business strategy, come up with a better one. If your as right about it as you believe you are, then there should be no problem propelling your own company to the top of the charts.

For some reason after all this I'm thinking of strange thing from Nintendo

    Battle Chess
    Duck Hunt
and the POWER GLOVE (I still remember trying to use that thing then saying "screw it give me a friggin controller")

And one note about my prob with the OP was:
I'm from back then yet I STILL consider myself a current/modern gamer.

    The developement of MMOs.

For a quite a while there were only 2 big MMOs.

Guild Wars and World of Warcraft.

While Guild Wars chose to stay true to the concept "beat the game, get your gear, now it becomes more difficult - play as a team already, done with that? - here's some multiplayer where gear doesn't matter, prove your skill!".

WoW went like "here you have more powerful weapons, wanna one-shot the boss you fought 2 days ago?, here you go!, oh and why don't you start at level 60? , PvP? - Take this sword and 1 hit those n00bs!".

Sadly the majority of gaming community decided that they wanted easy cake grinding - ow sorry for the bad word, I meant "progression".
    WoW got market leader.
    The companies adapted the principle.

And yet, there really hadn't been any trolling or flaming. Just good-natured comparing, along with some joking hyperbole and some reminiscing. Until your post, of course. Well done.
