Straight up.
Something I find funny.......the SNES in my closet still works, but my PS2 next to my TV doesn't (the wuss thing burnt out months ago........even though it was used much less than my SNES).

Nice! They were pretty darn reliable. If you keep that bad boy away from moisture, dust, and crazy temperatures, it might outlive us all.

Last time I checked, I still had an Atari 2600 that worked, but that's been several years now. Even if I can find it, I'm not sure I even have a tv that I can hook that RF modulator up to now...

All the old school stuff that wasn't just there to look cool (except the power glove which was just.......stupid.......hardly anyone could use it for any normal games).

i never could figure out that damn thing lmao...you want to know who got me into gaming?...my dad lmao...honestly

i remember when he went and bought the nes when it 1st hit the stores...he came home, kinda late, then i remember hearing that damn mario music, an hour later i heard zelda, then the duck hunt and my dad cursing the dog for laughing at him when he missed a duck lmao...now picture my dad, 6'5", 260 lbs, an ex navy seal, playing video games lmfao...and he would get so into it too, especially zelda, the gold cartridge, i know everyone here knows the 1 im talking about, when you put the cartridge in and hit the power button and if it blinks on and off, it just erased all that hard work, he would stay up late as hell playing that damn thing, cursing the iron knuckles, when he got to ganon, we all had to be there, cuz it was a huge thing for him, he had to figure out how many times he had to go screen over before finding the right screen and go down, 1st he had to figure out the he had to use the faery ability, then he would have to scroll over screen after screen before he figured it out...then when he did, all the cursing in the world ensued when he got to ganon...but when he beat the bricks off ganon, he felt accomplished, then handed me the controller and said " your turn kiddo, lets see what you can do ", lmao, my dad was the 1st really hardcore gamer i knew, we went through 2 controllers cuz of him and it was because of zelda...now if my dad can work at an ER, build his remote controlled planes and still have time to figure out zelda without the internet, or people helping him, why the hell cant people do that today lol...give some more ammo for that rager to cry about

Hi all,

No idea if I'm one of the eldest here or not, probably not! but that's whats great about gaming...I'm coming to the big 50 in June so know all to well how fare gaming has come, from the zx80 to the tech call Graphene their working on to bring 2D computers, "flat computers"...

My favorite game was on the amiga 500 which was dungeon masters and being on 1 floppy disk that held 1 meg of info, this game took me a couple of months to complete.. I remember being stuck at one section in the game with some writing on the wall of the dungeon saying "when is a wall, not a wall" now I went round in circles for 2 weeks trying to figure that out.. Till one day I cast a spell off a fire ball and it went right through the wall, yes that's it, so I just walked through the wall... Hence when is a wall not a wall, when it's not there..

There has been so many changes over the last 30+ years, it's unbelievable....Sometimes the problem isn't the games, it appreciation of how fast we have come in so little time...Sometimes the younger peeps perhaps don't understand how fare we have come from bat and ball/pacman to games like crysis and defiance....And want or now have everything to hand were as the older gamers use to have to deal with it when there was no internet.. So it's a bit of both really, the older gamer knows how hard it use to be and now the newer gamers have everything to hand.. Neither is a bad thing.... I personally enjoy what we have now and can only imagine what we have to look forward to in another 30+ years....

i'm to lazy i'll try to figure something out for awhile to the point i'll get mad and just youtube someone's let's play or just google the answers. i did that for skyrim just google "skyrim for dummies". i also did that for defiance i youtube the recorders as well and location of emergencies if i couldn't find them.

I wish you would have said it like that in the first place - the angst was off putting.

In my post I said Devs fault, and it is - they DO put crazy things in that aren't challenging just frustrating. But the OP is right on point that if there are puzzles, people do cheat and look for the solution rather than just playing the game.

You both are right when it comes to this argument - er discussion, let's keep it a discussion.

The angst was necessary. Its equally as off-putting to be told the casual gamers are "dumbing" down the gaming world. I take offense to being told using research to figure out a solution, whether it be first try or 200th try, makes a person dumb and lazy. On the contrary, it makes us smarter as we didnt have to waste time, or our sanity "figuring it out for ourselves". If the information is available, the dumb people are the ones who need it and dont use it. Figuring out things for yourself is good and all, but remember, we have an educational system because its easier to have help learning then it is to teach yourself. Sure, you could teach yourself astrophysics, but wouldnt it be much more efficient to just to go college and learn it there? Same concept.

But thats just it, not everyone see's it that way. My point is, many casual gamers dont get a sense of accomplishment after that, we just feel angry and dont want to play the game anymore. If im trying to enjoy a story, what enjoyment would I get from being stuck for 2hrs on trying to figure out how to open a 12 button trigger device to open a door, that has to be entered in a certain order, and all the clues for the orders were buried under the last 15hrs of game play. None if you ask me, even after getting that door open, I dont feel accomplished, I just feel angry. By the time I got through the door, I dont even remember what I was doing before that.

Now when I sit down and go, there must be an easier way to do this, so I go to the internet to find out, well now im just lazy. Im lazy cause I didnt want my story ruined and forgotten with a dumb game mechanic? Im a whiner cause instead of sitting there for 2hrs figuring it out, I was smart enough to go to the internet and just look up the combination. Well if thats how you feel, I guess it sucks to be you because this is not going away. I refuse to sit stuck on a problem for hours and hours when I can just go look it up and be through it with no muss, no fuss, and no undue anxiety.

And like another guy said, there are other parts of gaming that you just cant go look up. Like in PVP learning someones tricks and using them against him. No 2 people will play a game the same way. So as I said again, its not the players faults, this fault lies with the developers for not keeping up with the increasing skill line of the gaming community and the freedom to go research so we dont have to spend hours on monotony.

well then play games that dont require you to have to think, like a racing game, or hell even a hunting game, there's plenty out there, with the gaming market today there's so many different types of genre's to choose from, so theres no excuse to get angry when there's plenty of " non-thinking " games out there lol...so in essence the real fault is your own for not doing some research of what kind of games you like, if you dont like to have sit there for 30 min to an hr trying to figure out a puzzle, then dont get games that are puzzle related...quick suggestion, before buying a game, look it up 1st to see if its a no brainer game or if it requires you to use your noodle, BAM!!!! problem solved, now you have no reason to moan and groan on this thread about anything...like covington said " here's your cookie " lol
