Could certainly be the case, one ship arriving a hundred years earlier than the rest is certainly plausible. Personally, I suspect that a ship landed several thousand years earlier - perhaps even containing some other Votan race (humans). The earthquake may have been the dormant equipment activating as a reaction to the approaching fleet - even though it was still a hundred years out.
