There is no reason for it. Other than a place to spam area chat trying to sell something. Part of the reason people gather in these areas (Org for instance) is because of they have to some times. It's where the bank, auction house, skill training, pvp queing, and such.

Defiance doesn't have any of those things. You can que pvp from anywhere and no bank/auction house/crafting. you could do the same by making chat into zone chat instead of area.

If you are trying to choose a social hub though. My pick is Iron Demon. It's got a Vehicle and Mod vendor plus a lock box vendor. It is also big enough for people to show off thier "sweet" rides without interferring alot with other people. Muir Processing would be good to. Considering the central location of it plus it's got a vendor.

It would be awesome to see something like this implemented into the game, surprised that they didn't off the launch! Some nice ladies in the bar to for the occasional lap dance or show hahaha

Now imagine if my intention was to actually cause turbulence. Not even Slade Craven could stop me. (you win the internet for the day if you can get the reference)

Is it better to out-monster the monster or to be quietly devoured?

You obviously don't know me very well. I play on PVP servers not because I like to fight, but because I am damn good at running away.

I always thought of the Muir Processing Plant as that spot. It's the 'central' of all the hidden vendors and with some whacky car glitches there it makes people sitting there running cars into the sky fun as well as a place to chat whilst doing so.

Nice idea, but something I don't see Trion doing, not in the near or even distant future. This game has so many issues that are far more important that if they are not resolved, your little bar will be a ghost town just like this game will be in short order.

it all falls down to "intent"....

I don't feel that trion intended to make a player hub, the lack of any civilization other than a few scattered backwater shacks, farms, and shanties. Does the game need a social hub? Yeah, i feel it does....It could be something simple as a remote outhouse near a pond with a sign that reads "doo drop inn", as long as it has those things which make it a socal location (no enemies, bank drop, storage drop, billboard where players can post trades, sells, ect., enhanced chat features, fairly large open space to accomodate the number of players that may sit there afk for hours on end)

I think that they did not consider the need for a social hub, in favor of combat grind over social interaction...

Maybe, after they iron out the wrinkles a bit in what they have, they will go back and look at what makes a community tick over the span of life a game has, and add something simple (at first) to satisfy the desires of the playerbase.

In the meantime, we'll just have to wait and see if things go smoothly with the first DLC before we start demanding more features....

personally, I would like to see them put a town in there somewhere....don't care much where it is, as long as it can convey that the whole of defiance is a wasteland filled with some ray of hope on the bay, instead of endless enemies across the land.

to any dev who might stumble across this:

If i could suggest a possible location point for a future social hub....

there's a really big empty spot around Mt. tam, between the three regions, that could use some lovin'. right now, it's just an off road area to aleviate boredom, and boost up to the highest tip of the mountain, nothing else there really but a lot of steep hills and empty spaces (i know it was intended as a spacer between the three regions.but hey...nice spot none the less). would be a nice place for a Player "hillside bunker bar/brothel/danceclub/trading post/ect." with a few roads, from different directions and regions, to the hub.

might fill that big empty hilly spot on the map....just sayin'.

Keep in mind the story can handwave quite literally anything Trion wants. SyFy already set the precedent for a settlement in the universe. What Trion cannot handwave, however, is the amount of work and the technical limitations that might prevent a settlement from appearing on the Bay Area map.

This means there is either a technical reason, a cost/benefit reason, or a "behavior shaping" reason that prevented a settlement from appearing in the game. The story could easily be re-connected or reframed to allow such a place to exist within our playable zone. Without stepping on SyFy's toes, and without destroying or even compromising narrative coherence.

Which, incidentally, isn't the game's strong point. Paper-thin characters, surface-deep plot, macguffin artifact hunt, "life problems" getting solved five minutes after hearing about them, and villain in a dark cloak twirling his evil moustache already saw to that.

This guy is the archetypal videogame bad guy in all the worst ways. Von Bach has potential as a truly awesome villain (even more potential if he's willingly possessed), but Nim is who we have to settle for in the meantime.

As easy as it is to tear apart the plot, though, I was prepared for this. Yet another reason why I can't hold Trion's nose to the story and say "you can't add towns." Because the story isn't solid enough in the game for me to hold Trion to their setting.

Disappointing for a game tied so closely to a TV series, but... it's still Just a Game.
