Bump to the front page because this is the weekend to honor those unable to post here, or anywhere else.

Cool to see a Russian posting in this thread, for most of the young guys here it probably seems normal, but for me, an old cold warrior, it's a nice change.

This being the weekend in the US where we remember those who died serving our country, I'd like to say thanks, and remember the many, many Russians that died in WW2 helping us defeat the third Reich, and all they represented.

Most here probably don't know much about the battle of Stalingrad, but I know enough to respect the Russians that fought there.

I run a home for Disabled and Recovering Veterans in Boston. I've worked in and around the VA and Veteran organizations since I got out and it's insane how hard it is to get them to admit to a claim. I have to fight the government we represented and try to get as many Vets the help and support they deserve but it's hard. It's disgusting. Most of the time we need to use lawyers because the VA considers us liars and leeches to be turned down and pushed aside. Even with VA doctors supporting our cases the VA (same agency mind you) says the condition does not exist or is not disabling. This is all while the doctors at the VA hospitals say otherwise in interviews, letters, notes and everything else. We've actually had employees come forward after getting transferred or let go by the claims dept. in Boston because they weren't kicking back enough claims and actually approving people too easily. It's policy to kick back most claims just to buy time and play the numbers game, hoping that Vet won't appeal the decision. It just infuriates and amazes me every day. I actually had a guy here with 2 conditions they admitted were caused by his service and were permanent physical injuries but warranted 0% compensation. I've personally waited since 2004 and I'm still broke and waiting, unable to work as per my VA doctors orders (All my Veterans work is volunteer).

If people cared enough to do more than put stickers on their cars we might get somewhere but they really don't (as much as they like to say they do at parties and in public).

I'm against hero worship too.. It doesn't help when some get the spotlight and others get nothing. 9/11 victims families get millions, bankers who went to work because of how they were killed are now somehow more deserving than the families that willingly sent their sons and daughters to die. It's not the credit I want for me or you but for the people that didn't come home. I want people to read their names and hear their stories and know what was traded, for them. That's not why we did what we did and I don't like giving my name or personal details partly because I don't like to be thanked (I hate it) but those that are gone deserve better. The people that volunteered to purposefully go in to danger knowing full well they might give their lives are brave and deserve to be noticed. People getting murdered is a tragedy but someone knowingly and willingly facing death for the benefit of others is heroic.

Then there are these SOCOM guys getting a little too much attention. I don't care what you did, when or where; you signed the contract that said you would forfeit your life in order to make the lives of others better means you're a damn hero, all of you. Some may have been asked to do more and had the opportunity to do more but as long as you were prepared to sacrifice it all.. Well that's all that really matters.

A little off topic there.. lol.. I have A LOT of time on my hands. How's that server coming?

Server is Up I believe, and I agree, all that served, no matter where or when deserve the credit.

Since others are tossing their MOS out there...
0351 from 87' till 94. Left work on Friday, MEPS on Sunday and back to Boot Camp on Monday when I flipped over to the Coast Guard. Now I'm a Navy trained SF/FMF-IDC. Have only had two land billets since flipping over to the Coast Guard an wouldn't want it any other way. Underway is the only way!

Wes! It's good to see Military Gamers over here. Played with some of you back in Fallen Earth and a few others.

    Catkicker,

Was the Snake Pit in Kwajulant (sp) when you were there? Diving is the best there. Can't recall the German warship, but she's a treat at 80' down. Don't feed the turtles bread and don't p*$$ in the pool!

    C0d1esel,
Don't do it! Your rating is still young and you still have a chance to advance quickly. You go MAA and... Well, you do what you want brother. I just stepped off the JARVIS today as we handed her over to the Bangladesh Navy. I'm gonna miss the old girl.
