Little speaker icon as part of player's name display?

I was in a LIVE party and couldn't hear any player audio, but I swear I saw a small speaker with 'sound waves' coming out of it as part of the player's name above his head.

    Anybody else see it?...

I saw it earlier today and assumed it was part of 1.020.

Is this the first game you've EVER played online or was common sense just unavailable to you?

It was a "mic indicator" the one they had for pre 1.020 sucked and they put in a newer better one in.

Edit: Didn't mean to sound like a Do**he but that WAS kinda of a dumb thread start.

First off, why was it dumb? I never saw ANY mic indicator, ever. I've heard racists rant on Defiance, without the benefit of the censorship that cut off some of your 'wisdom', and I thought a working mic indicator would be nice.

Second, while I saw it again today over several people, there was no audio going off that I could hear, so apparently it's either flashing at random or non-public communication is still being shown as happening, which defeats the purpose of identifying who is talking at the moment. You can't see 12 mic indicators flashing and tell who is the sole voice you hear.

Thank you so much for your contribution, though. Improved the thread greatly...

Seen it many times. The visual indicator of who is currently "talking" is immensely helpful in quickly figuring out what idiots to mute.

Also, in case you weren't already aware, the reason you were seeing the indicator flash but were not actually able to hear the person, is because you were in a party. Whenever you start or enter an XBL party, your audio is bound to party chat. If you want to hear what's going on in-game, you'll need to either leave the party or manually set your channel to game chat.

If the person wasn't in your party then you won't be able to hear them just see that little mic thing because I would say they were in like a game chat scenario while you were in party chat

The indicator doesn't function properly if it is displaying you as in game chat when you are in group chat etc. That indicator should only be visible for people communicating in game chat.

It's like setting up an indicator every time someone talked to their kinect or their batteries in their controller is getting low. It isn't necessary nor appropriate for everyone else to be aware of it. It defeats the purpose of identifying the folks in game chat who need muting if they aren't in game chat spamming the waves.

It needs work. Perhaps something along the lines of displaying only the folks who are in the chat channel you are currently tuned into? This way if they are in clan or group, they'll only display to those also in clan or group etc.

But common sense doesn't seem to be a priority with the ham-fisted way they throw fixes around.

have you ever built anything have you ever given it to someone to Use... and then when they use it they realize another use for it and then have to come back to you and said hey why don't you fix it so that I can do it this way. And thenyou're thinking that's not the way I intended it and I didn't even think about it that way but With time I will have that function... now think about this but there's thousands of things that are going on... and thousands of variables That you cannot even imagine that come up... and then imagine millions of players playing and coming up with variables and they want fixed now

My mic indicator lights up if I'm using my Xbox chatpad so I would assume that's why you see the indicator light but can't hear anyone speaking...Hope this helps.
