You know there's a web search code contest going on that gets you +6 slots (My EGO page on the game site).
Also if you preorder the larger game goodies packages you get another +5.
If you preorder through steam and they unlock all the preorder tier bonuses, that's another +10 slots.

Entering the Arkfall codes will get you 6 additional item slots from the start. So far the number also increases as your EGO increases, hopefully that is part of the final design as well. I don't remember at what level I unlocked them, but I've had 20 inventory slots available for a while now. The Arkfall bonuses haven't been implemented yet, either. So if the scale stays as is, you should have 26-30 slots fairly early in the game.
