Thread: Class quandary.

  1. #1

    Class quandary.

I heard this game was supposed to be classless or some such nonsense. But how it appears to me is there is two classes, rogues (sneaky d bags), and everyone else. I mean, I know cloak has been beaten to death for being op or whatever, but the problem is there aren't any other options. It's invisible guy vs. really fast running guy, or glowy orange super gun guy, or pointless hologram guy... The same goes for co-op, no one has a role to fill its just shoot shoot shoot maybe a hop or a roll in there some where and some schmuck running around with a BMG trying to be cool...

I don't get it. You say you heard this game was supposed to be classless, and your complaining that the game is classless?

Maybe you just don't like the game...

No I do enjoy the game. There's just not enough depth to the play style if you know what I mean. Yeah you got the guy with the assault rifle and the rocket launcher strapped to his back, I liked the way mass effect modernized the class system with the soldier, engineer, biotics. (warrior, rogue, wizard) that's different science fiction though but cool none the less.

But then you have classes, and this game is classless (as you stated in your OP). This is a shooter after all. It may have some RPG elements but it is far from it, and meant to be such.

If you want to change your 'class' use a a different gun.

I'll use some comparisons you may recognize.

What I was saying is that it has an obvious "rogue" but there isn't really any substitute for the rest of the trinity.
I mean you can stack up some damage resistance regen and armor perks slap on a good shield but that's nothing someone with cloak can't do.

You keep contradicting yourself, this is my last reply because your not getting it. There are no classes, there doesn't need to be any substitutes.
To kill shot gunners, run away and shoot them from afar. If your trying to fight a shotgun at close range you deserve to die.

To "Tank" use cover, it is simple.

Play the game more. Adapt to what people are doing. If your dying then your doing something wrong, so you should try something different. I'm done.

The OP is trying to say he wants to feel like he can build towards some sort of specific role, which you can do already but its not obvious. With the right loadout of perks you can spec yourself to be an explosive expert, sniping expert etc. etc. but its very far from a specific class based system.

It would be nice if there was a way to go even deeper into a more specific play-style build (not a trinity) with a skill tree separate from the ego grid but that's just me.

Seriously? Why is the concept of a game where player skill means more than character skill so hard for some people (meaning the OP) to understand?

Except that I respecced an old alt last night because I didn't know what I was doing when I started playing, and I was aiming for greater survivability with the changed EGO matrix picks. I emphasised cloak duration and recharge, and survival traits (armour, regen). Next few points go on Fortitude.

If I were going for a more offensive character I'd have gone with Overcharge and emphasised that.
Decoy is the tanking power, it draws attention off other characters as well as yours.
Blur... not really sure what blur's for. Maybe that'll become clearer with charge blades.

Anyway, point is that there are "class oriented features" and you can, if you wish, select perks which assist you in performing "class roles."

Of course, anyone can select any perks and base powers, but you're still looking in a loudout switch and some concentrated planning to "change class." That's particularly the case if you want to go down the combat medic (healer) route.
