Damn you. Now I'm going to have to resist taking the new xbox apart and doing a steampunk mod.

Don't take it apart use the parts from the broken one and trick it out! And when you are done - we demand pictures!

Maybe when I replace something and want to throw the old one out i'll mess about with it instead then.

Wanna know the legit reason why this is? Xbox, since it's classified as a "toy" in a lot of ways, cannot contain lead-based solder, they have to use crappier materials that melt and warp over time when exposed to heat, unlike lead which kinda just... re-molds, lol.

no its not, its cold solder joints, they have to use lead free solder in all public consumer products, the only exception is high security and military aplications that can use the old leaded solder, leaded is way easier to melt and is alot better to use. lead free relies on flux to help melt the solder.. it is crap stuff.

cold solder joints can stem from bad contacts to start with e.g oxidisation.. or incorrect wetting from the oven.

edit: you will need a hot air gun or a bga rework station to fix it.

Old Xbox here, i´ve had around 4-5 freezes overall. Played 8-15 hours last week and my box still works fine..don`t blame Trion for getting a RROD! I could happen with every other game!

Still got my Elite, going strong for a number of years now. No problems whatsoever.

Have you got the gonads to own the Nomad?
