    Dogtown Mine Pain

Hello, I'm doing the Jackleg Joe Mission, and maybe I'm not built up enough yet.
I've been trying to complete the mission, but have been struggling.
I am at EGO 600, I've acquired some purple weapons, and feel I have sufficent gear.

Is Dogtown Mine a jump to the next chapter, making it hard?
Or is it just my character isn't high enough EGO/Weapons.
I've been trying to understand the whole weapon upgrade system...am I missing something?
    Synergy?

To make matters worse...I have to listen to Rosa, over and over and over..."Shoot the Bango-s"..."All clear here".
I find her more of a hindrance than help. lol
It's like having the old lady along on an adventure...Rosa should have stayed at home

Well I would ask where are you struggling? With the boss fight? or simply getting to the boss fight? You level really shouldnt have too much of an effect on your ability to progress threw the game. Damage is pretty much the same threw out. Higher levels simply mean more perks to maximize your damage output. Also weapon rarity usually means the bonuses or perks the weapon will have. I have yet to see a gun do more damage than another gun of that type reguardless of level or color rarity.

Now as for beating the fight, IF your problem is the boss fight the way I tackled it was for me simple. I use the CLOAK ego with a HP5 Wolverine pistol and a bolt action sniper. I do not recommend the pistol for this fight however as it is a burst fire gun and this can screw up the main mechanic. I stayed in the back left corner (when facing the boss) sniped all the Mattocks that come out and waited for the smelters to spawn. Once they do, simply wait for them to round the corner to come to you. Melee and then pop them in the tanks. The melee will leave them facing down on the ground for a bit exposing their tanks. This isnt the easiest thing to do especially with the burst fire pistol however one shot to the tank after a melee and they will ignite and head for the boss making him vunerable.

If your problem is with getting to the boss battle well then I would have to know more about what you are using and how you are playing.

Shoot the tanks on the back of the flamethrower guys, if you can't while they move then melee them and they fall down. Then why they are down, shoot it. Then shoot Jackleg Joe repeatedly, use an assault rifle or LMG.

I have found threw repeated play, killed him three times now. That you can get threw the first phase of the fight much faster if you snipe jackleg in the face after the smelter blows his shield. But yes any way you slice it pop the smelter in the back and then joe in the face. Once he comes down he acts like any other BlackLung lobbing grenades at you. This is were my cloak ego power was very handy.

Yeah, I figured it was just me...
My son tried the level a few days ago, and almost beat it his first time.
Guess my fingers don't work as fast anymore...it sucks getting old...haha

I will be persistent, and let you know how it works out later.

btw...I know about the tanks already etc...just not getting there.
    Thanks for the help, guys.

I've been taking breaks, but have been attempting this all weekend further building my guy and building weapons.
I got to Jackleg, but ran out of ammo for my guns. It seems his shield regenerates quickly.
I'm using cloak to get back in a corner, and then try to pick them off.

Maybe there's an approach some of you have used successfully which I could try?
I have some good purple Snipers, and what I feel is other decent weapons. I'm now around 650 EGO.

I can't believe my game is being held up due to this mission...lol
I feel like such a noob.
Any help would be great, thanks.

There are little ammo boxes right there in the room he's in. You may not have noticed because they look different then the normal ammo boxes. For strategy I used a grenade launcher and just one hit with it will set the smelter on fire then just switch to ar or lmg and blast away then repeat process until dead.

I give you credit for not just making your son do it for you lol.

I found this to be much easier once you get to the actual smelter part of Jackleg by jumping up on one of the two generator cages in the back corners (nearest Rosa). The smelters can't hit you there and pretty much just stand underneath you. You can then just pop a round in their tanks without having to do any crazy runn'in around (lil easier on older fingers...I know the feeling...unfortunately).

Any weapon that can get you there is fine, I've used everything from infectors to LMG's. Can't say I use sniper rifles in close quarters, but by and large, a decent choice if you're looking for the quick kills.

And yes, there are two tiny ammo insta-fill ammo crates on each side of the room for you to refill...can refill on the move with them...don't have to sit and hold your "E" button or console controller button (whatever that may be). And as a point of future reference, these type ammo boxes are in every boss fight that I've found (coop's and main mission)

I know Sino, the old fingers ain't what they used to be.
I'm preparing for another go at it, and will let you know how this one works out.

Can someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I read that flash grenades will ignite the fuel tanks on the smelters backs without killing them.
