Click esc, then the eco button in the corner, then go under character, then hit the second tab for salvage matrix, click select an item, then pick the one you want to add mods to (must have a mod slot) then if you have any available mods for that particular weapon type you can equip them there.

Is it better to out-monster the monster or to be quietly devoured?

You can install mod slots on weapons that are not equipped. It runs about 10minutes to install a new mod slot and even then, it may not be a slot for a mod that you currently own.

Mod slots cost the green resources, btw.

Umm how? I have selected about 15 different weapons and the "Add Mod Slot" option never shows up, its always either just breakdown, or breakdown and attach mod. At the moment I have 35000 green resource, so i dont think it would be that.

The thing that threw me for a loop all yesterday was not understanding that my other loadouts were "reserving" guns as being equipped. I'd unequip a gun and try to mod it, but it didn't have the option to add a mod to it. I had a mod that was specifically for that gun type and it had an empty space for that mod type but still no option to add one.

I learned from the forums that you have to unequip it in ALL loadouts for it to register as being unloaded. Hopefully they add some sort of hint to the game that tells you why you can't add a mod. I don't think I would have figured it out without the forums.

    See Papatank's response.

Also, it seems to be based on your EGO rating too. I didn't get the option to start adding mod slots until after 100 EGO. I could be totally wrong though, I never tried to do any modding before this weekend. It just didn't seem as important previously (whereas now, I tend to get killed faster and faster when soloing).

I played all night and I did it with a purple sniper rifle I got out of a tier 3 lockbox. I'm not sure if it requires a certain tier of gun or if you have to get to a certain ego level first. I was just over 300 EGO when I did it. Sorry I don't have a more definitive answer.

Having the items in another loadout isnt an issue as Ive tried weapons that are definately not on any loadout. Ill go roll over the 100 EGO level now and see if that helps.

Edit: Yup, Level 100 Ego lets you add mod slots. Thanks all for the help
