It's just as bad up here in Canada, what ever ethnicity the employer is tends to be the majority of the ppl they employ.

Maybe i was too overqualified, i had everything an employer wanted. I had 24/7 flexibility, liable transportation, 2 years experience in the field i was going in. As i waited in the waiting room, i saw young kids walk up to the lady with things like "yall hirin" "yall lookin for employees" I was formal in my approach. The thing that strikes me is that those people were hired.

They ask for your race and if you are a vet and stuff like that for tax credits. I work at an HR company who helps clients manage their program and review each person they hire to see what tax credits they can use.

I don't think race is that big of a deal in hiring. I do know people still have problems getting hired due to natural or dreadlocked hair.

The biggest problem in my opinion is that unemployment is still high so for every position there are tons of people applying and more often than not, you can lose out if you are overqualified ( and thus likely to be asking for more pay ) because they can some other person to do your job for even less.

On the other hand, if you had all your stuff together and looked professional they might have thought you were overqualified, in the sense that after they finish training you you're going to get bored and find a better job.
