So you're at a Hellbug arkfall and when it finishes you see the number one guy has millions of damage, easily 2-3 times more than the number two guy. What the hell? How did he pull it off?
I'm here to give you all the secrets!
Hellbug Hellion and Hellbug Symbiote (oddly enough both are referred to as symbiotes by EGO) are where this happens. It can sort of been done in Scrapper Progenitor as well, and Hellbug Matron it doesn't really work.
Hellion and Symbiote are first exposed after you've defeated some of the maws/arms. After ~25% damage recieved they will retreat. Monarchs will pop out or more arms need to be defeated until it comes back, but this is where the mad secret comes in.
Equip a detonator and shoot it into the top of the mouth of the tower of hellbug flesh. If you aim correctly, when you detonate (ground pounders work best for this), you will do huge damage to the hellion which is just inside the mouth, out of view. In the case of the Hellion you can actually see its hp drop even though it's greyed out.
Ground pounders do full damage if you aim correctly, and with a +3 mag you're launching six grenades of 3000-4500 damage EACH into the hellion's face. By the time it reemerges after the death of the monarch it will be close to disappearing again for its 50% spawn of monarchs. Once again, throw more ground pounder grenades into the top of the flesh and watch as the Hellion's hp drops. This also works for the symbiote but you won't see its HP bar (but if you're doing it right you WILL see the damage numbers / hit markers).
This won't work very well for Hellbug Matron because even though you can damage her with a ground pounder when she's underground, she teleports / moves quickly to her next popup point so it's almost impossible to aim.
For the scrapper Progenitor the secret to being number 1 is never ever ever shoot the core. Get a wolfhound and stand in front of the arms, shooting at the heat sinks. Follow the core and when it repairs the first arm, stay there and shoot the heat sinks while all the other suckers do a quarter of the damage to the core. If you aim well you should be able to kill two heat sinks before the arms have all been repaired, giving you a significant headstart on the next round. Make sure to grab ammo when the bottom heat sinks are gone, because it's harder to aim at the top one and better to grab ammo then instead of when a valuable lower heat sink is available.
