Quite true. If you look at your Trion page with your activation codes on it, you'll notice that there is NO differentiation between Steam and Trion release codes; merely preorder for beta invites; the preorder will say Steam on it, the other will only say Defiance (with Deluxe if you've ordered that).

That's making the assumption Trion isn't tracking which product keys went to which retailers.

Yes. Also you can also currently launch the release client from your PC if you've updated from Steam (I did the night Beta ended). Go to your local disk > Program Files (x86) > Steam > SteamApps > common > Defiance and run Patcher.exe there. Game should patch up and then 'Play' will be available after update (although of course, there are no servers available). You'll also note there's a 'live' folder in that last directory; took about a two hour update on Sunday to patch up. I'm hoping that was a release client update since it was applied to the 'live' folder

The cash shop has a claim section, I'm sure there will be a specific steam code or two, maybe 3 that will go there. That's usually how this stuff works.

word needs to get out about this game, hardly anyone knows about it - which is a pity because its a great game despite some glaring bugs.

I see Defiance ads up on places like Curse.com and gw2dragontimer.com more and more now.

This company has also been implicated in identity theft and credit card fraud. I don't think it is wise to give them your information.
