Actually not sure that's entirely correct. Why would Trion announce that Alpha testers were still under NDA then?

But then again, I don't really care. I'm still buying the game It's just plain old fashion fun, and I'm just plain old fashioned :P

LOL I agree with your point but this is a shooter game, what did you expect in a shooter game?

I expected to recite english literature via microphone and therefore earn the appreciation of every NSC throughout the world of Defiance. Now i'm quite disappointed because of the lack of fancy culture.

Well i noticed a Kind of "lock on" when using Auto Rifles and Pistols.
Aim in the Target's General Direction and use aim. It will lock right onto the target.

The alpha's have seen thing past the starter area, they have seen the 'end game' and have tested a lot more than what we were given. ***Spoiler Alert*** is not enough when some have seen everything before the game is even released.

In point of fact I can't think of a single MMO I've ever played -- and that would be most of them -- where killing things is the only thing to do.

I have been playing Beta since it came out - I signed up for PS3 but tried the PC until it was painfully obvious that either the game was severely bugged early on or my PC just rebelled. The first thing I thought was "this is no MMO", since it was so buggy and unplayable I thought it was just bare bones and would change. Fast forward to today after 17 hours of PS3 beta testing and it still feels not too MMO-ish. They have some aspects of it and I am sure that in time it will get better, but it really is just point and shoot.

Like Myria said a MMO is more that one thing, the core definition of massively multiplayer online is right on target here. It's online and it's multiplayer and it's massive - too massive at times. But it's not the standard of MMO be it TPS or RPG, there are flaws in both a TPS and RPG setting. I have heard it promoted as both TPS and RPG so I don't know what the devs/marketing team are doing to distinguish the two.

Will this replace WoW, LOTRo, and the other Top MMOs who have longevity? I don't know, I doubt it from my experience. They will need to incorporate basic rpg style community interaction to keep players interested. Being on a console this will be difficult, don't know how Xbox fared but communication on PS3 was impossible the last two days.

I didn't dislike the game as much as I did months ago, but I don't think it will be ready by April 2 and I don't see me buying it anytime soon for a number of reasons. I am looking forward to the TV show and wished it looked and felt a bit more like what I have seen from that (RPG plausibility and feel).

Trying to keep an open mind about it, but if it is only ever going to be JUST a quick enemy spawn repetitive shooter it will not be the game for me.

Again I have hope for growth within this game.

I have been playing the Beta on and off this weekend. So far I think it's pretty mediocre. There are plenty of good things about the game but it feels awfully shallow.

A couple of things put me off actually buying the game:
    1. There seems to be no depth to this game. It's just grab a gun a shoot, all the Dynamic Missions are as simple as shoot. This doesn't require any brain cells at all.
    2. No classes - I think the game works with no classes thats fine. How comes there are no medpacks no ammo boxes that players can drop. Nothing is worse than doing a dynamic event and you run out of ammo and have to leave the battle to come back.
    3. I have yet to do any proper PvE "Dungeon" styled content. My thought are it's going to be point and shoot some more. This game comes off very Shallow.

One of my friends suggested that this game is like Borderlands Online, although I agree at least the Vault Hunters brought some special abilities that directly affected co-op play, there was a reason you took Maya into boss battles... for heals?

I find this game to be a lot like the Free 2 Play (it's currently in Founders stage - will become free 2 play on launch) game Firefall and I have to say if Defiance is making you pay for the same experience that Firefall gives you plus more for free, why would I play this?

So my main beef is where does this game gather some depth? When do I need to use my brain to do something?

Do you think you can convince me into buying this game? I really need a new game too :P I've completed all my others lol.
Im afraid I agree with the OP, if the Beta is anything like the game I will be maxed out of everything in couple weeks.....just like Borderlands 2...

What there is an auto aim, how did you trigger it? What key?

One of the reasons I love MMOs is that my character can level up and get more powerful, do cooler things, and become epic. Unfortunately, with Defiance, it felt like my character wasn't really going anywhere. You pick one ability at the beginning, and then as far as I can tell, you don't get anything except the perks which give you small % to various things. All the stuff you get from the ego grid is just situationally useful 2-5% increases. I couldn't see anything to look forward to, and I think that's the problem.
And I feel the same way about traditional gear-grind MMOs. Do 100's of speed runs in the Lair of Eternal Boredom to get a piece of gear with a stat that increases your effectiveness 0.005%. No thanks.

At least here I can see how I can build a character off the ego traits. In a traditional MMO, you pick your class and just grind for equip with marginally higher stats each time for a minute performance boost. That, to me, is the very definition of boring and un-rewarding.
