    On another note.
I used to live in central queensland (Australia) and that place was pretty rough for online stuff, that was over 13 years ago and i have no idea what its like now with broadband ect. and i can totaly see long time supporters of xbox that can have these issues being rightly pi$$ed off!!

but surely the percentage of people that dont have internet access is less than 5% or something stupidly low?
and i get the whole going to a friends, taking it with work ect ect, internet might go down stuff that will stop you from being able to play for a day or a few hours.

i think the majority of people will have no problem with this in this day and age and with the check up online services in general will be alot better than they are now.

the core values of a gaming console are to play where you want, when you want as long as you got power and a tv. I get this. now that everyone is getting into gaming, and to be a *gamer* isnt special like it used to be, the internet turning into some super monster that probably wont be able to be controlled in the near future.

i believe M$ are going the right way.
    World wide internet stats

As you can see quite a few people are not connected including nearly 80% of Europe! And out of those who do have a constant internet connection many of them will suffer below par speeds and connectivity issues. How can MS think the that current internet infrastructure is ready for there device?

I'm beginning to agree with with some commentators who are claiming MS is trying to cut deals with cable companies to supply an Xbox one as a replacement for a cable box. If this is true their actions start to make sense( as do their projected sales figures of moving 1 billion units).

For many people its a matter of principle, they don't want to be dictated to by MS and have to put up with loads of restrictions. MS have shown a stunning amount of arrogance and a complete lack of consideration for most of their customer base.

No there not pointless, you stated that less than 5% of people had no internet access. We all think we are living in this massively connected world and its its true to a point for some, its simply not for the majority, technology is lagging way behind the ambitions of many companies. Whats the purpose of the check up? They want to gain marketing data, I'll be very interested to see the TOS for the Xbox One I suspect its going to be an interesting read.

I'm sure all the sheep farmers in Siberia are hugely annoyed at the 24 hour check in.
They are surely not going to have the wool pulled over their eyes by Microsoft's shenanigans.

The main problem is if you don´t have access to the internet (provider problems, maybe physical dmg of your phone/internet line) YOU CAN`T PLAY ON YOUR XBOX ONE, cause it requires to be online and check it every 24 hours. So it´s not possible to play your games offline and this is unacceptable imo!!!

i didnt propose facts i just said *surely* the percentage is stupidily low in general regarding gaming.

maybe i should of said that the % of people who can afford to buy a xbone or ps4 that wouldnt have access to the internet once every 24hours *surely* would be low.....

lol, no but they've missed what the sheep have been up to since MS have sold out their launch allocation of Xbox ones.

    I agree.
I think a lot of the noise coming from people is exaggerated, as we all know you don't buy a mobile phone if you can't get reception, and you don't buy an online gaming console if you don't have an internet connection.
But as much as I want to ridicule some of the overreaction to the Xbox One's particulars, 24 hours is simply not long enough.
Connection issues that are not the fault of the owner, as you say, line faults, upstream issues, exchange and DSLAM problems, or even moving house or changing providers can take many days to sort out.

Then *surely* you can see its not stupidly low is it?

As for the issue of people overreacting can you blame them? I've been a Xbox fan for years and was going to stay with MS before all this DRM rubbish was confirmed, there's no way its happening now. I don't believe most people are overreacting but I could be wrong, maybe this will all die down and MS will shift their billion units and I will win the lottery and marry Kelly Brook no doubt as well.

Nothing about the XB1 really turns me off.
I believe the two main problems are the second hand games and 24 hour check in.
I don't trade games and have a very reliable internet service.
I currently play 360, PS3 and PC and may even get both XB1 and PS4.
Personally I enjoyed the 360 better because of a few simple things, the controller, the friends chat / party system and achievements, which I know is a personal preference and not everyone will agree.
All these were available before the other things like IE, Apps, Avatars and Kinect.
The only thing I want out of this new batch of consoles, to put it basically, is that games be BIGGER and BETTER, if you know what I mean.
I just want to paly some amazing games.
All the other fluff I'm not interested in.
