Looks like if I decide on ps4 I'll be getting a new headset anyway.
I had the Sony's headset for PS3, but the quality was bad during intercontinental matches, so meh. The plus with these headsets for PS4 is that no one will now have an excuse to not communicate with team. We'll see how the quality of sound itself will be. Also, it will be connected to the controller itself, which is quite interesting in itself.

because you have the ability to connect ANY type of head set, feel free to spend $5 to $500..
the headsets that come with products are seldom good, in quality or comfort, as we all know by now.
I play with a massive surround sound system, so external mics like those on a camera will not be practical. this also eliminates using the all in one surround headsets, because I prefer the superior audio fidelity of my av system. Blutooth, Jawbone Era, that's my headset. It's fantastic fro communication, and it's the same one I link to my phone and tablet. Though it's pricy, there are some other decent ones for 1/3 the cost, like plantronics or bose.
It really is up to you, find the one that feels right and hopefully sounds good.

xbox one does not come with a headset... (no.. the kinect does not count.. played defiance at all? being forced to listen to all of the audio reverberate through a house on a console? listening to the tv echo, screaming children, fans, eating, everything... no thanks... It may be cute for voice commands, but unless your playing a game with no audio, it just isn't practical.

actually it was 10 people had access to your library and two can play at the same time on different machines. the owner (yourself) and 1 of the "family members" dind't have to be split screen. and no limitations. so for instance if you brought halo to play with your brother who lives in another state. he could lay for free and you wouldn't have to buy 2 copies

i know a few people who use the kinect as a mic and its never been an issue. not eveyrone has crying kids and fans and such. also the fact taht it recognizes yoru voice and ignores backgorund noise is pretty awesome. tehy showed a demo of it where it recorded the 1 person talking with a bunch of background noise. and you can't even hear what the person was saying, the they played it back and teh kinect only captured teh voice of teh persona nd none of the ackground noise and you heard what he said clear as day. I was pretty amazed

Whoooah there! How does MS spitting their dummy out and removing that feature because they had to back down equate to people ruining it? The people who ruined it were MS for taking it away surely?

becuase if so many people weren't up in arms about DRM it would still be a feature. MS backed down for PR and sales reasons. Its like if a union strikes for more money, wins the our prices go up so that the owners can afford the new wage scale.

But why did they take out the family function for digital sales? I can understand for physical disc's but for digital the system was already there, there's no reason to get rid of it? Its features like that which could encourage a change of viewpoint but they wont find out if that could have been the case now because they threw their toys out of the pram when the customer base voted with their money.
